PLDT to surpass 1M new fiber customers target for ’21

The telco’s home business segment added over 324,000 new fiber customers for the third quarter alone, reinforcing its position as the fiber service provider of choice in the country.

PLDT is set to exceed its one million new fiber customers target for the year as it breached the 800,000 new installations mark as of end-September. PLDT also sustained its quarterly record in marketshare gains among telco providers.

The telco’s home business segment added over 324,000 new fiber customers for the third quarter alone, reinforcing its position as the fiber service provider of choice in the country. PLDT Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan already alluded to strong fiber uptake for the month of October during the Company’s recent 9-months briefing, indicating sustained momentum for the next quarter to surpass a million new fiber subscribers.

“We are in a position of strength both in the home and enterprise segments, and are determined to stay head.  We have new ports coming in that will enable our Home team to offer our services to all Filipinos that remain unserved.  As this continues to be a huge demand, we look forward to big growth as well next year,” said PLDT Inc and Smart Communications President and CEO Alfredo S. Panlilio.

Demand for easy installation and reliable connectivity at home continues to drive PLDT’s Home business growth streak as more customers adjust to the digitalization of hybrid work and school set ups.

“PLDT fiber has always been the top-of-mind choice for me. At that time, I asked my friends and all of them were using PLDT and majority had the best experience with PLDT Fibr. Coverage also comes into play since PLDT is widely available in many areas making its signal stronger and more accessible to many,” shared Jan Enriquez, a two-year PLDT Home Fibr customer residing in a high-rise condominium in Quezon City.

“Since the whole Covid situation started, internet has made everything a bit lighter because of new types of social connections. Through internet and availability of video calling platforms, we are able to be creative in mirroring these experiences like e-numans, online reunions, game nights etc. All these are not just entertaining but also satisfies our need for connection,” added Enriquez.

Since the pandemic, PLDT has doubled up efforts in expanding its network and fiber coverage to reach more homes across the country. PLDT’s fiber footprint now spans over 615,000 kilometers, with over 12.7 million homes passed, and 5.3 million ports ready for service.
