DICT, NTC release final timeline for selection of 3rd telco

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) are going full speed ahead to name the New Major Player (NMP) after unveiling the new timeline at the Information Campaign on the Implementation of the NTC Memorandum Circular No. 09-09-2018 on Tuesday, 2 October.

Four days before the MC takes effect, NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba presented the final timeline with 7 November as the final date for the interested participants to submit accomplished bidding documents.

According to the new schedule, the NTC will also give an ample time for the potential bidders to raise clarification on the bidding documents.

Acting Secretary Eliseo M. Rio Jr. said that this timeline is the outcome from the desire of President Rodrigo Duterte to name the third telco this year.

“He [President Duterte] has been listening to us [for] a more realistic timeline. But I think now, as I’ve said this is the deadliest deadline. I think the industry has to accept this,” said Rio.

Cordoba mentioned that they will be very strict in the submission of bids, and encouraged the interested bidders to be thorough and if there are queries they can submit it at newmajorplayer@ntc.gov.ph.

After the official invitation to bid to be published on the 7th, participants can purchase the 1-million pesos worth of bidding documents at the NTC Central Office.
