Quipper conducts QodeFest for students to unlock their knowledge in coding

As part of its recurring theme, “Equipping Learners with 21st Century Skills that Go Beyond the Classroom,” the webinar helped students to improve their modern skills and embrace technology as an integral part of their learning process—this time, by teaching them how to code a two-dimensional (2D) game using Stencyl.

Quipper, one of the leading edtech and LMS platforms in the Philippines, recently helped enable learners all over the country to know the basics of coding by conducting the second Student BootQamp called “QodeFest.”

Led by Anne Margarette Dungca, Instructor from EveryJuan Can Code, and supported by Power Mac Center, the webinar tackled the basics of creating a 2D block game using the software Stencyl. This game development tool allows users to create 2D video games for computers, mobile devices, and the web.

The attendees learned how to get familiarized with the Stencyl environment and its various assets. They also learned how to add platforms and characters while controlling them using block coding.

“The good thing about learning how Stencyl works is that it leverages the learner’s interest in coding, which is an important skill to learn nowadays. Learning how to code can offer vast opportunities to students interested in being part of the tech industry or if they want a new hobby,” said Dungca.

She also reiterated its educational benefits by highlighting how it can develop a student’s critical thinking and problem-solving skills. “Coding is more than just learning how to create a website, a game, or software but it can also enhance someone’s creativity. It is truly a skill that a 21st-century learner needs,” Dungca added.

Dungca hopes that the webinar would spark conversation about how technology should be integral to 21st-century learning. “Technology has helped students in so many ways. And we, in EveryJuan Can Code, hope that through this webinar, they can improve the skills needed for their future careers,” she concluded.
