Maya strengthens account protection with in-app Security Center

Since introducing Security Center late last year, Maya has continued to enhance its existing controls and add features. It brings these tools together with access to help, forming part of Maya’s ongoing investment in customer protection.

Maya, a digital financial services platform in the Philippines, is encouraging customers to use the security tools already available in its app to manage account access and protect their transactions, including trusted-phone enrollment and biometric approval for Send Money.

Since introducing Security Center late last year, Maya has continued to enhance its existing controls and add features. It brings these tools together with access to help, forming part of Maya’s ongoing investment in customer protection.

“Protecting our customers’ money requires continuing investment in infrastructure, safeguards, monitoring and incident response. It also means giving customers clear ways to manage their account security and reach us when they need help,” said Shailesh Baidwan, Maya Group President and Maya Bank Co-Founder. “Our in-app Security Center brings practical controls together in one place, making them easier to find and use.”

Customers with upgraded Maya accounts can enroll trusted phones through Security Center, accessible via Profile or Services, or follow the enrollment prompt after logging in. Once enrolled, they can use their phone’s Face ID or fingerprint instead of an SMS one-time password to approve Send Money transactions. Enrollment is subject to Maya’s security checks.

Under Account Security, customers can view and remove trusted phones and review past logins through Login History. They can also change their registered mobile number or password and update their email address.

Freeze My Cards allows Maya Black and Landers Cashback Everywhere credit cardholders to freeze their credit cards directly in the app.

Through Transfer Limits, customers can manage limits for InstaPay transfers from Maya Wallet to other banks and Insta-fill transfers from Maya Savings into Maya Wallet.

The customer controls complement Maya’s broader safeguards, including AI-supported fraud monitoring. Maya Philippines and Maya Bank hold ISO 27001 certifications for information security management and ISO 27701 certifications for privacy information management, held continuously since 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Maya also promotes scam awareness through Maya ScamPatrol, which provides practical guidance on recognizing fraud tactics and adopting safer digital habits. The campaign complements the company’s security measures by helping customers identify suspicious messages and requests.

Beyond its own platform, Maya works with regulators and law enforcement agencies, including the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Philippine National Police (PNP). Its work includes support for CICC’s Scam Safe initiative to strengthen public awareness of online scams and cyber fraud.

“We work with government and industry partners to combat financial scams and strengthen customer protection,” Baidwan said. “That cooperation goes hand in hand with our responsibility to keep improving Maya’s safeguards and helping customers use financial services with confidence.”

Maya embeds security across its products, operations and customer support, continually strengthening controls, employee awareness and readiness to respond to incidents. Together with government and industry cooperation, these efforts help protect customers’ money and information and sustain trust in digital finance.
