Pres. Marcos stresses importance of third telco initiative in bilateral talks

DITO Telecommunity, in response, reiterated its commitment to support the call for universal connectivity that President Marcos first mentioned in his first State of the Nation address last July. He said that connectivity for Filipinos will be a vital component in order to ensure that no citizen is left behind.

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. touched on the third telco investment and the importance of the partnership that was forged during the bilateral talks in his recent state visit to the People’s Republic of China.

DITO Telecommunity, in response, reiterated its commitment to support the call for universal connectivity that President Marcos first mentioned in his first State of the Nation address last July. He said that connectivity for Filipinos will be a vital component in order to ensure that no citizen is left behind.

In a report submitted to the President prior to the State Visit, DITO executives led by Chief Executive Officer Dennis Uy, outlined the accomplishments of the country’s third major telecommunications player in support of the goals of the new administration.

In the report, Uy stressed that DITO has already constructed 6,328 integrated sites, laid out 28,000 kilometers of self-built and purchased backbone for fiber, and has surpassed yearly government audits for both speed and population coverage since 2020.

He said that the strength of the DITO network can clearly be seen in the latest independent audit wherein DITO clocked average broadband speeds of 71.77 Mbps for 4G and 801.19 Mbps for 5G and with population coverage of more than 74-percent.

“Our simplified, award-winning network architecture that considered cost-effective solutions using the latest innovations to anticipate future network evolution has future-proofed the DITO network. DITO has provided the Filipino people with an attractive alternative to spur competition and ignite positive change,” Uy explained.

The DITO CEO further mentioned to the President that with effective legislation, push from government regulators, and most especially, active competition from DITO, from just 7.4Mbps average download speed in 2017 in the Philippines, we were up to 22.5 last year, and Filipinos now enjoy speeds of more than 40.01 Mbps.

The Philippine President lauded the remarkable milestones and gave special mention to the more than 15M subscriber base that DITO acquired in just a short span of time, less than two years from its commercial launch.

DITO is no stranger to going up against giants abroad and in the country.

For the past years, DITO innovations in its network roll-out have received awards from abroad.
