Lazada notes growth in 2018, launches 12.12 Grand Year End Sale

Lazada launched its 12.12 Grand Year End Sale, running until December 12. This announcement came just as Rey Alimurung, chief executive officer at Lazada Philippines, noted that the year 2018 has been a great year for the company, with growth seen in its operations, and changes made on its platform.

Foremost among changes in its app was the launch of ‘personalization your app’ feature early this year where the app doesn’t look like the app of the other person. Alimurung said this initiative was designed to help shoppers find products that are more relevant to them based on their shopping, browse and purchases. This is also intended to boost brands. As shoppers buy a product from a merchant, they try to see all of his products going forward unless they buy other products afterwards.

In addition, Alimurung said Lazada also launched a tool in its platform that allows sellers and brands manage their business level.

This year also saw a growth in Lazada’s operations and exceeded all its targets. The company grew its assortment 10 times from last year, reaching the 60-million-mark in terms of the number of products that can be seen on its site. It also reported a growth in its seller base by four times and had three times its sales compared with last year.

Lazada also launched in September the LazMall, Southeast Asia’s largest online shopping mall with thousands of authentic and original branded products. Its link is found on the left when users open the Lazada app.

On the logistics side, Lazada expanded the size of its Cabuyao warehouse twice its size to about 60,000-square meter. It also opened a new warehouse in Davao last October.

Meanwhile, Lazada observed that the market has shifted. “We are truly convinced that Filipinos are embracing online shopping more than ever before. We really saw a shift and we reached our new baseline,” said Alimurung.

To illustrate the shift in the market, Alimurung cited the following examples: the 230,000 diapers they have sold on Lazada 11.11, a record which they hope to break again this Lazada 12.12 Grand Year End Sale. They also had 500,000 flash sales that they sold and want to double for 12.12. There were 30,000 mobile phones and a mini Monte Carlo edition car sold on 11.11.
