Smart opens Cebu Network Facility for tech students from Visayas and Mindanao

During the visit, PLDT and Smart equipped the students with #BeCyberSmart tips to help protect themselves against SMS scams and other fraudulent activities online.

Smart Communications, Inc. welcomed over 300 students and faculty members from Bohol Island State University (BISU), Northwestern Mindanao State College of Science and Technology (NMSCST), and Central Philippines State University (CPSU) San Carlos Campus to its regional network facility in Cebu.

As part of their educational tours, the students were able to explore Smart’s network facility and gained insights into how Smart delivers its communication services to its customers.

“We’re happy to welcome these students to our network facility, and we extend our gratitude to the schools for making Smart a part of their educational tours. We hope the knowledge they gained during their visit will influence their career paths and inspire them to become driven and impactful tech professionals in the future,” said Roderick Ebon, AVP and head of Smart Network Service Operations VisMin.

During the visit, PLDT and Smart also equipped the students with #BeCyberSmart tips to help protect themselves against SMS scams and other fraudulent activities online.

“This tour aims to enhance our students’ learning experience by providing practical insights that extend beyond traditional classroom learning. It’s also important for them to see how the industry really works, which can help inform and shape their future career choices,” said Bem B. Gumapac, College of Engineering, Architecture and Industrial Design faculty member at BISU.

“I learned a lot from this tour, and it was a good refresher on things I’d learned before. It was interesting to know about the processes behind network operations and how internet service reaches users,” said Francine Manlangit, fourth year IT student at NMSCST.

These efforts underscore the PLDT Group’s wider commitment to helping the country achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Quality Education.
