The credit card arm of the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) received the award on May 20 during the virtual Digital CX Awards 2021.

The Digital Banker is a globally known news and research provider for the financial services sector including banking, insurance and financial technology (FinTech) markets.

The award for the RCBC Online Banking app fulfilled the criteria for the aforementioned category after undergoing a comprehensive audit grade evaluation.

The app continuously empowers RCBC Bankard credit cardholders in terms of managing their finances better through its bills payment and purchase conversion features.  Using the RCBC Online Banking app, cardholders can automatically convert straight purchases that they charged to their RCBC Bankard Credit Card to up to 36 months installment, with a simple swipe.  This is especially helpful when it comes to paying big-ticket transactions, such as a hospital or school payments.  Further, using the RCBC Online Banking app, cardholders will be able to charge their bills to their RCBC Bankard Credit Card, either through On-Demand (one-time payment) or Auto-Charge (recurring payments). Cardholders can simply click on the bills payment icon to make the payment.

Both features of the mobile app were implemented swiftly as a response to the effects of the Coronavirus 2019 (Covid19), thus helping customers accomplish their financial transactions securely and with ease and convenience.

RCBC Bankard, in partnership with RCBC, was able to successfully launch the Fast Bills Pay and Purchase Conversion facilities last April 8 or less than a month from the time that the lockdown was declared.

“The swift implementation of credit card-related services in the RCBC Online Banking app ensured that the benefits were relevant for RCBC Bankard cardholders since it addressed the challenges and limitations brought about by the lockdown,” said RCBC Bankard President and CEO, Arniel Vincent B. Ong.

As of end 2020, 74 percent of transactions were done through the mobile banking app specific to purchase conversion, while 89 percent were being done through the app for bills payment.

To date, RCBC Bankard has built several digital platforms or self-service facilities for its cardholders including: Digital Onboarding for online card application platform; Digital Cash Loan or its online cash loan availment platform for qualified cardholders; Customer Portal for web-based facility for statement viewing; as well as a short message service (SMS) card activation which is a keyword based, self-service card activation via SMS facility.
