HMD Global brings Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 2.1 to PH

The Nokia 3.1 is a big upgrade from its predecessor, with boosted internal specs, a new exterior design, and sporting a big 18:9 aspect ratio 5.2” HD+ display( up from the 5-inch 16:9 display of the Nokia 3), made out of 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass.

HMD Global has brought to the Philippines two Nokia phones: the Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 2.1, which offer significant upgrades from previous models.

The Nokia 3.1 is entering the Android One family where it joins the comprehensive range of Nokia smartphones already delivering an experience designed by Google. In a meeting with the press, Shannon Mead, HMD Global Philippines Country Manager, explained that Nokia smartphones with Android One offer more storage and battery life out of the box as well as the latest AI-powered innovations from Google to help the user stay ahead of the game every day.

Mead adds that the Nokia 3.1 will receive three years of monthly security patches and two years of OS updates as guaranteed in the Android One program. This puts the new Nokia 3.1 among the most-secure phones out there, always up-to-date with the latest Google services such as Google Assistant and Google Photos with free unlimited high-quality photo storage.

The phone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek 6750. While it’s a small upgrade on the previous model’s quad-core MediaTek MTK 6737, it delivers a 50% performance boost, according to Mead. It will be available with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. There’s also a slight battery boost, to 2,990mAh, along with a microSD card slot that supports up to 128GB of additional storage.

The phone’s rear camera has a 13MP sensor with auto focus, a big boost from the older model’s 8MP. The 8MP selfie camera remains unchanged. Thanks to its full set of sensors – usually only found on premium phones – the Nokia 3.1 runs the latest apps and features effortlessly. Users can make the most out of popular AR apps such as Pokémon Go and capture a whole scene with panoramic imaging.

For security, the Nokia 3.1 can be unlocked with facial and voice recognition, according to Mead.

The phone will ship with Android Oreo 8.0 as standard and will be available in Black/Chrome on August 29 for PHP9,990.

Pre-sale of Nokia 3.1 has begun and lasts until August 26 through Nokia mobile stores and MemoXpress.

Nokia 2.1: Designed to be powerful

While the Nokia 2.1 is positioned as a budget phone, its features and design make it a powerful device. The Nokia 2.1 comes with 2-day battery life, a large 5.5-inch HD screen and dual front-facing stereo speakers. The Nokia 2.1’s powerful 4,000mAh battery now charges even faster so users can get back up and running even more quickly than before.

While the Nokia 2.1 is positioned as a budget phone, its features and design make it a premium device.

With its HD display 20 percent bigger than the original, Nokia mobile fans can now enjoy high-definition videos on the go. The dual speakers, with bespoke 3D formed stainless steel detail, provide amazing stereo sound.

The upgraded Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 64-bit Mobile Platform gives users 50 percent faster and smoother performance to enable efficient and fast switching between apps. It’s only available with 8GB storage, but there is a microSD card slot that can support up to 128GB.

Nokia 2.1’s cameras allow users to capture the action wherever they are with its 5MP front-facing selfie snapper or 8MP rear camera with auto focus.

It runs Android Oreo (Go edition), which is designed for phones with 1GB RAM or less. This means some of the Android apps that run on it (such as Google Maps, YouTube and Gmail) will be limited versions optimised for the lower specifications offered by the Nokia 2.1, but it should help things run more smoothly.

With HMD Global’s extended partnership with Home Credit, you can also avail the Nokia 2.1 and the Nokia 3.1 at 0% interest for a 6-month installment period.
