BUSUANGA, PALAWAN – Epson has announced that it is eyeing to further grow in the Philippines, with a plan to invest P4.7 billion to build a new factory that will be completed by 2017. The new plant is being eyed to increase the company’s inkjet printer and 3LCD projector production volumes.

According to Toshimitsu Tanaka, the company’s president and country manager, when the new plant opens, it will be Epson’s biggest factory worldwide.

This move is a reflection of the company’s continued growth in the country, as it marked 2014 as a “remarkable year by capturing the leadership position in volume and market share for inkjet printers,” said Tanaka.

Tanaka added that the company is projecting a 10% year-on-year profit increase in the Philippines.

Epson currently has a plant in Lima Technology Center, Lipa City, Batangas, established in 1994. As of end-2014, the plant has approximately 12,500 employees. The new facilities will be constructed inside the existing site; and it is expected to increase the number of workers to over 20,000.

Epson’s current lineup ranges from inkjet printers, printing systems and 3LCD projectors to industrial robots, smart glasses and sensing systems and is based on original compact, energy-saving, and high-precision technologies. Led by the Japan-based Seiko Epson Corporation, the Epson Group comprises more than 72,000 employees in 94 companies around the world.

Epson’s corporate presence in the Philippines started in 1998. It now has a network of 77 Authorized Service Centers nationwide with more than 200 dealers and more than 800 shops across the country.
