Globe is calling for stronger community vigilance and closer collaboration with local government units (LGUs) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) as theft of critical telecommunications infrastructure continues to threaten connectivity across South Luzon.
From 2025 to April 2026, Globe recorded 216 incidents of theft involving power cables, batteries, telecommunications equipment, generator fuel, grounding systems, generators, and circuit breakers in Laguna, Cavite, Oriental Mindoro, and Albay. While these crimes target physical assets, their impact extends far beyond network facilities, disrupting the services that communities rely on every day.
When network equipment is stolen, homes lose internet access, businesses face operational disruptions, and public institutions encounter crucial communication challenges. Schools may experience interruptions to digital learning, while government offices can face difficulties delivering online services. During emergencies and disasters, damaged network facilities can also affect the communication channels used for coordination, public advisories, and response efforts.
“These are not simple cases of property loss. Every stolen cable, battery, or network component can affect thousands of people who depend on reliable connectivity for education, livelihood, public services, and communication with loved ones,” said Adonis Evangelista, General Manager for South Luzon at Globe.
Laguna recorded the highest number of incidents, with 67 cases, followed by Cavite with 46 and Oriental Mindoro with 20. In Albay, Globe noted a sharp increase in incidents involving cable, battery, and equipment theft, with cases in 2026 rising more than fourfold compared to the previous year. These cases accounted for nearly half of all recorded incidents in the province, highlighting the growing threat to the facilities that keep broadband and mobile services running.
The company is urging local residents, barangay officials, and community leaders to immediately report suspicious activities near cell sites, broadband cabinets, cable routes, generators, and backup power facilities to the local police authorities. Globe emphasized that public vigilance plays a critical role in protecting infrastructure that serves entire communities.

Telecommunications facilities are considered vital infrastructure, and individuals involved in theft, vandalism, or tampering may face criminal liability under existing laws, including provisions of the Revised Penal Code and Republic Act No. 10515, which penalize unauthorized interference with cable and internet facilities.
To date, Globe has endorsed 53 cases to the PNP and continues to strengthen coordination with law enforcement agencies and local governments to support investigation and prevention efforts.
“Connectivity has become a lifeline for communities. Protecting network infrastructure means protecting access to education, economic opportunities, public services, and emergency communications. This is a responsibility that requires the participation of everyone,” Evangelista added.
