REVIEW: Whole device ultra-bounce, anti-drop features notch up reinforced HONOR X9b 5G

Upgrade Magazine reviews HONOR X9b 5G.

“Beyond”. “Best”. “Bounce.”

Three words.

This is how we would put in a word the letter “b” in HONOR X9b 5G, a smart camera phone, if dropped from 100 feet high would simply bounce with neither scratches nor damage thereafter, both to the screen display and optics.

“Beyond” because this time the phone maker took several features of HONOR X9a 5G, up one notch from the “Awesomeness” of the X9a when it swept the local mid-range price smartphone market a year ago.

“Best” in the sense that it features several qualities that are tops in its class category.

“Bounce” exhibiting time and time again the phone’s ultra-bounce anti-drop display 360 degrees whole-device protection. The all-round drop resistance for the screen is something to reckon with. This is made possible by a brand-new three-level chassis protection that provides multiple reinforcement for the screen, frame and internal compartments.

At one instance, during an unplanned drop tests by Upgrade Magazine, it was the phone holder’s clamp that broke into two pieces while the HONOR X9b simply brushed off the incident. Attribute it to the cushioning material with micron-sized pores which can absorb up to 1.2 times the impact of a drop, consequently unharming the smartphone’s 6.78-inch AMOLED Curved Display. So, by displaying superior strength, it was recognized with a first ever five-star overall drop resistance certification by Swiss firm SGS for its toughness and durability.

Although labeled the “toughest” phone in the HONOR X Series line-up, do take precaution though not to overdo the drops. “As a precision electronic product, there is still a risk of damage when the phone is dropped. Please be careful to avoid falls or collisions,” a HONOR Lab Tests report reminded.

CAMERA PERFORMANCE

While the design doesn’t deviate much from the HONOR X9a 5G, it retains the circular camera island similar to a luxurious watch. The HONOR X9b 5G features a triple rear camera setup, with a main 108MP, f/1.75 camera using a 1/1.67-inch sensor flanked by a 5MP, f/2.2 ultrawide and a 2MP, f/2.4 macro lens. In front is a 16MP centered punch hold notch for selfie photography and video shooting.

Added is the ‘Falcon Capture’ and motion sensing capture features, which were previously exclusive to the Honor Magic 5 series, according to HONOR.

The latest iteration in HONOR 9Xb showcases an enhanced storage capacity of 12GB + 256GB, a 108MP Lossless Camera that allows users to reduce image size without compromising quality.

During the recent holidays, Upgrade Magazine explored the highlands in San Juan, Batangas and Laurel, Batangas with a review unit of Honor 9Xb 5G in tow. Samples of night shots of buildings, lights, fireworks and partygoers produced impressive low noise digital photos overall, including those zoomed to the max.

EXTREME DELIGHT

Getting caught in the midst of documentation photography could make one worry about battery life and storage. But, thanks to the ultra-durable 5800mAh, 35-watt super change juice in the battery, a worry-free user experience with full-day battery life, was a relief. The rated battery capacity is 5700mAh.

The Honor X9b 5G we used had vegan leather back panel finish design. Its Orange color created vibrancy to the aesthetic look. Enough to attract the attention of people, specially curious onlookers.

This should be a smashing hit to users who will experience the advanced and innovative features from the HONOR brand.

Available in Sunrise Orange, Emerald Green and Midnight Black color options, the Honor X9b 5G weighs in at 185g and measures 7.98mm in thickness, 163.6mm (Length) by 75.5mm (Width) that allow a “perfect holding” experience.
