Converge pure fiber network reaches over 500,000 kilometers

In a report to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Converge said that it has now laid down over 523,000 kilometers of fiber nationwide, more than double from its year-ago rollout of around 260,000 kilometers total fiber assets.

Converge ICT Solutions Inc. continues to aggressively expand its pure fiber network, surpassing 500,000 kilometers as of end-April, as it pursues its mission to provide world-class fiber internet connectivity to more unserved and underserved areas in the country.

In a report to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Converge said that it has now laid down over 523,000 kilometers of fiber nationwide, more than double from its year-ago rollout of around 260,000 kilometers total fiber assets.

The current fiber cable kilometers of Converge consist of around 403,740 kilometers of last-mile network and over 119,000 kilometers of fiber backbone which include its domestic subsea cable system.

“We are not just one of the most extensive fiber optic cable networks in the country today but we are also the youngest with an average service age of just two years for our total fiber assets,” said Converge CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy.

“Converge has also deployed the latest optical technologies in its network, making it the most technologically advanced,” Uy added. Converge was the first to deploy 400G data transmission capacity on its metro backbone which was further doubled to 800G, boosting the fiber network’s capacity to push huge amounts of data throughout the length of the cable, in anticipation of the use of next-generation, hyperscale capacity applications.

In 2021, Converge also deployed a third core backbone node for stronger and more efficient data traffic distribution along its network.

It has also connected its first customer to the latest standard in data transmission in developed countries called the XGS-PON or 10G technology, which essentially allows Converge users to symmetric upload and download speeds up to 10 Gigabits per second with an average speed of 8Gbps which is an industry-first in the Philippines.

With its aggressive fiber rollout, Converge was able to install over 860,000 ports since the start of the year. As of end-March 2022, the pure fiber network of Converge has passed more than 12 million Filipino homes which is equivalent to around 47% household coverage. This brings Converge well on-track with its accelerated goal of reaching 55% of household coverage by 2023.
