Deal with people, processes and tech to create effective cybersecurity – Kaspersky

Remote work, said Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia at Kaspersky, is not a new practice in business; it has been going on for some years now.

Remote work, said Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia at Kaspersky, is not a new practice in business; it has been going on for some years now. Usually, this is done by executives who do a lot of traveling. In fact, based on his personal experience, “I myself have been doing this for years with my responsibilities across the Southeast Asia region.”

But it can be argued that many of the ICT changes were “rushed” by COVID-19, with Yeo adding that “I think the difference during this pandemic, besides that it happened rapidly, is that remote work was adopted even by sectors you’ve never thought would utilize it and it’s even offered to all levels across the organization. An example of a sector that probably surprised us a lot is the health industry where check-ups and consults have become available and encouraged to be done virtually if it’s not a Covid-19 case. We’re so accustomed to physical doctor visits but now because of the threat of the virus, the health sector chose this alternative for everyone’s safety.”

“In essence, to create effective cybersecurity, the ideal formula has these three things,” Yeo said.

First, “people – continued education on all levels of cyber hygiene to those who belong in the organization.” Second, “processes – collaboration within the organization and other sectors to combat cyberattacks.” And third, “technologies – use of the most current technology.”

Therefore, “we at Kaspersky always advocate that everyone should at least have a security solution to their devices be it in their laptops or desktops and mobile phones,” Yeo said.

On this, Kaspersky’s Total Security is one of the best endpoint protection solutions anyone can utilize. “It has features that are very good for work with its anti-hacking, anti-malware, and VPN features. It also has Kaspersky’s safe kids features that would benefit those whose work devices are shared with kids.”
