PLDT Home fibers up Romblon islands, connects first fiber sub

PLDT’s expansion in the three islands form part of the group’s roll out to connect major islands in the archipelago, partnering with LGUs to help boost local economic activity, enable online education, and provide reliable connectivity to households.

Residents in Romblon are already enjoying the fast, connected service of PLDT Home Fiber plans with the completion of the fiber submarine cable to the province, providing fiber optic coverage to Tablas Island. PLDT expects to complete its fiber-to-the-home facilities in Romblon and Sibuyan islands early this year.

Odiongan Municipal Officer Dr. Ramer Ramos was among the first residential customers in Romblon to have been installed with PLDT Home fiber. “Mabilis siya. I thought of getting Home fiber so my kids can benefit from the connectivity for their schooling since mabilis at stable. Walang problematinetest ng anak ko and umaabot siya ng 190mbps.”

Dr. Ramos previously had a Home Ultera plan that uses wireless technology to provide connectivity in their home, but readily requested to upgrade his plan to HOME Fiber ever since PLDT completed its fiber roll out and made it available in Odiongan.

He also expressed enthusiasm as the Municipality of Odiongan plans to draw in investors and make their city a viable hub for business process outsourcing and call center companies, with fiber facilities already in place.

“Our communities here in Romblon have really been excited to know that PLDT fiber is now available. We initially rolled out over 1,200 ports here in Odiongan, and soon will have more facilities to provide services to everyone in the three islands,” said PLDT Zone Head Normel Talon.

“We anticipate our fiber service will make a major impact in business, work-from-home, and schooling,” he added.

In addition to supporting 5G, PLDT’s fiber optic links also enable Smart’s LTE services, helping Smart provide faster and more resilient data services.

Since the completion of the fiber submarine cable connecting the island, Smart has successfully deployed LTE across 100% of Smart’s sites in Romblon. Smart has also fired up its first 5G sites in the municipalities of Odiongan and Ferrol.
