“There is still a long road ahead for the Philippines to become fully cloud ready.”
This is according to Jason Lim, country manager of Vertiv Philippines.
In fact, “the Philippines is still behind other countries in the Asia Pacific region when it comes to cloud adoption. According to the 2018 Cloud Readiness Index by the Asia Cloud Computing Association, the Philippines ranked 9th out of 14 countries.”
Fortunately, Lim said, “improvements are being made across the industry… thanks to government support and its adoption of a ‘cloud first’ policy.”
When it comes to the challenges faced by the country (that affect its cloud-readiness), the “three concerns that our customers face when it comes to cloud adoption are: security, infrastructure readiness and resources.”
According to Lim, concerns about cybersecurity remain at the forefront when it comes to cloud adoption here, with these threats ranging from DDoS attacks, outages or even hackers.
“Infrastructure readiness is tied closely to the issue of cybersecurity. When a data center is secure, threats of cyber-attacks are kept at bay with the right solutions in place,” he said.

In the end, “concerns regarding security, infrastructure readiness and resources are causing many companies to be hesitant to shift to a cloud-first policy. In addition, bandwidth concerns, such as slow internet speeds, remain a concern. Many companies here, however, are slowly but surely transitioning to a cloud-based approach, but there is still much to be done.”
