Converge data center ready to support government data residency under Marcos’ EO 119

Together with Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda and other government officials, the President inspected the facility, which is strategically positioned to support the nation’s data sovereignty agenda.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. visited the state-of-the-art Angeles Data Center of leading fiber broadband and digital infrastructure provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. Together with Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda and other government officials, the President inspected the facility, which is strategically positioned to support the nation’s data sovereignty agenda.

The presidential visit follows the issuance of Executive Order (EO) No. 119, which updates decades-old rules on how state agencies handle digital transactions. The new decree seeks to enhance cybersecurity, and support the secure digital transformation of government through unified rules on data classification, data residency, and cross-border data transfers.

“We are preparing for the future right now. By establishing our own sovereign data center, cloud and AI infrastructure, we are safeguarding our nation’s data, bridging our islands, and ensuring the Philippines is ready for the AI era,” said President Marcos during his visit.

To meet the strict standards under EO 119, Converge is offering its 12-megawatt, Uptime Tier III Certified, AI-capable data center in Angeles City—home to its Converge Cloud system—as a localized “sovereign cloud” for the government. This infrastructure enables state agencies to migrate their systems out of costly, foreign-hosted servers and into a secure, highly protected facility operated entirely within national borders.

“EO 119 marks a defining moment for the digital backbone of our government,” said Dennis Anthony Uy, Converge CEO and Co-Founder. “We built this data center and our entire national digital infrastructure for this exact purpose: to meet the strict demands of highly regulated sectors where absolute control over data is non-negotiable. We commend President Marcos for championing this timely policy, which will not only secure our country’s digital progress for years to come, but also drive vital new investments into the local data center sector.”

By keeping data local, the government reduces cybersecurity risks, ensures continuous service even during international internet disruptions, and keeps critical citizen records under the legal protection of Philippine courts.

“Data is the foundation of our digital future. We must protect critical government information while ensuring that the Philippines remains open to innovation, cloud technologies, and global digital partnerships,” DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said.

Converge has long championed national data sovereignty and localized cloud hosting. By delivering world-class, resilient, and redundant data center capacity on home soil, Converge offers government institutions a reliable, compliant partner for their cloud migration journey.

With the Angeles Data Center serving as a strategic hub, Converge reaffirms its mission to provide a secure digital backbone for both the public sector and the nation’s growing digital economy.

“Securing our government data locally is a crucial milestone, but the next frontier is ensuring our national infrastructure is AI-capable,” Uy concluded. “Converge will continue to upgrade and scale our facilities to support high-density, AI-driven workloads, strengthening the country’s readiness for AI adoption and regional digital growth.”
