Like it or not, the world is lookist. That’s why we say “first impressions last”. Good or not, we base our liking (or hating) of something on what we see first. Perspectives could change, yes, but impressions are made at first meetings.
Which is why it’s good we weren’t disappointed when we first got our hands on the nubia V80 Max.
Though it has a 6.9-inch HD+ screen, this unit is actually light; meaning, holding this somewhat thin unit won’t tire the hand that easily. It helps, too, that even if the unit seems “boxy”, its edges aren’t disturbingly squarish. This helps in the comfy gripping of nubia V80 Max.
We got the “Sky Cyan” color variant (which is, basically, baby blue), and it looks… fresh, even if the front screen can be a handprint magnet.
All the buttons are where they’re supposed to be – e.g. power button that’s also a fingerprint scanner at the right side, along with the volume control buttons; and nano-SIM and memory card tray is at the left side. A must-mention is the .5mm headphone port at the bottom of the unit, emphasizing the return of the wired accessories.
This may just be a quick look, but we turned on the nubia V80 Max anyway. And there were some observations:
- Setting up was fast
- Among the first thing you’d notice is the brightness… this one’s bright (!)
- The phone’s lower part bezel is somewhat thick; it was, at least, noticeable when we turned on the phone, and then just forgotten when we started using already
- The screen was crisp (1640×720), so that details were apparent/not pixelated
- No lags were noticed while navigating the phone
An in-depth look is needed, obviously. We’ll do that, too. Though for now, based on looks alone (and the many promises of nubia V80 Max), this one deserves to be considered indeed.
