Pilmico Foods Corporation selects AWS Outposts to power manufacturing operations

This strategic move enables Pilmico to standardize its IT infrastructure while efficiently running critical workloads in areas with limited connectivity.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), an Amazon.com company, announced that Pilmico Foods Corporation (Pilmico), one of the Philippines’ largest integrated food and agribusiness companies, has selected AWS Outposts to modernize its manufacturing operations nationwide, part of Pilmico’s extensive production network. This strategic move enables Pilmico to standardize its IT infrastructure while efficiently running critical workloads in areas with limited connectivity.

Pilmico, an Aboitiz Foods company under the Aboitiz Group, operates four major divisions—Flour, Feeds, Farms, and Trading—across the Philippines. As part of Aboitiz Foods’ integrated food and agribusiness network, Pilmico is connected to operations serving multiple markets across Asia, providing opportunities to share innovations and best practices across borders. The company faced significant challenges managing operations across multiple remote manufacturing sites, where limited internet bandwidth impacted the performance of critical applications like Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems that need to communicate with plant equipment in real-time.

By implementing AWS Outposts, Pilmico can now process these latency-sensitive workloads locally at each manufacturing site, ensuring consistent sub-millisecond latency performance for essential services, even in areas with connectivity constraints. This solution eliminates the complexity of managing disparate systems across multiple locations while creating a consistent operating environment that supports the company’s Asian expansion strategy.

Following a successful proof of concept at their Capas, Tarlac facility in September 2023, Pilmico is now deploying AWS Outposts across its remaining manufacturing sites in the Philippines, with plans to extend the solution to support its international operations.

“Our manufacturing operations depend on critical applications that require high performance and low latency, particularly in remote locations,” said Gary Eugenio, AVP for IT Infrastructure at Aboitiz Foods. “AWS Outposts provides us with a consistent, cloud-native platform that maintains the local processing capabilities we need while significantly simplifying our IT operations.”

“Agribusinesses are increasingly looking to modernize their operations with cloud-native technologies while maintaining critical on-premises capabilities,” said Kevin Kwan, ASEAN Specialist Leader at AWS. “By choosing AWS Outposts, Pilmico gains the ability to run low-latency workloads on-premises with the same AWS tools, APIs, and functionality they would use in the cloud, enabling them to standardize operations and accelerate innovation across their entire organization.”
