Fortinet, the global cybersecurity leader driving the convergence of networking and security, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Holy Angel University (HAU) in Angeles City, Pampanga, as part of the Fortinet Academic Partner Program. This collaboration is designed to equip students with industry-recognized cybersecurity training and certifications while addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in the field.
With the support of Fortinet’s distributor, MEC Networks Corporation, and partner, Simplivia, HAU will integrate Fortinet’s Network Security Expert (NSE) certification program into its curriculum. The program will also be available as a standalone continuing education course, expanding access to cybersecurity training beyond enrolled students. It covers key areas such as network security, web security, malware analysis, and defense, providing students with essential skills and globally recognized certifications to advance their careers in cybersecurity.

The partnership will also establish a Cyber Innovation Lab equipped with Fortinet’s advanced cybersecurity solutions, allowing students to engage in hands-on learning and tackle real-world industry challenges. Additionally, students will benefit from guest lectures by Fortinet experts and guidance from Fortinet-certified instructors, who will lead practical exercises, case studies, and interactive learning sessions.
This initiative is particularly critical as organizations in the Philippines face an increasing shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals. According to Fortinet’s Cybersecurity Skills Gap 2024 Global Research Survey, 94% of organizations in the Philippines experienced at least one security breach in 2023, with 77% attributing it to a lack of cybersecurity skills and trained IT staff. Additionally, 84% of organizations reported difficulty in finding candidates with technology-focused certifications, highlighting the urgent need for cybersecurity education and training.
Beyond HAU, several universities and educational institutions across the Philippines are part of the Fortinet Academic Partner Program, including Our Lady of Fatima University, Mindanao State University-Sulu, Don Bosco Technical College-Mandaluyong, Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, Central Philippines State University, Bulacan Agricultural State College, Manila Central University, Systems Plus College, and Mapúa University.
