Smart transforms BGC into first ‘Smart 5G Max’ City

Smart’s innovative mobile products and services also contribute to the PLDT Group’s endeavors to narrow the digital divide, provide connectivity to all, and achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) particularly SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. These also reinforce the Group’s support for the Government’s overall digitalization thrust.

Mobile services provider Smart Communications, Inc (Smart) is leveling up 5G experience in the country, firing up the first Smart 5G Max City in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig and eyeing to launch more in 2025 to bring faster and more reliable 5G connectivity closer to more Filipinos nationwide.

“This achievement is part of Smart’s broader commitment to build robust and future-ready infrastructure. Starting with BGC, which serves as our blueprint for more Smart 5G Max rollouts across the Philippines, our aim is to bring the Smart 5G Max experience currently being enjoyed by BGC residents, workers, and businesses to more cities and areas, fueling productivity and enhancing the digital Filipino lifestyle,” said Debbie M. Hu, Head of Wireless Network at Smart.

Smart logged another key network highlight during the event. For the first time, 5G peak users surpassed 4G users, a testament to the capability of Smart 5G Max. “This is the first time, in any of our events, that the 5G Peak Simultaneous User count is greater than its 4G counterpart,” said Hu, adding that data from independent speed tests during the Smart 5G Max event also showed that Smart’s 5G network is at least three times faster than competitors in download speeds and twice as fast in upload speeds.

“Our speed advantage empowers users with instantaneous access to content, seamless streaming, and uninterrupted online gaming–cementing Smart 5G as the superior choice for customers,” said Kristine A. Go, Senior Vice President for Wireless Consumer Business at Smart. “After hosting the country’s first-ever Smart 5G Max-powered concert in the Philippines in BGC, which highlighted the possibilities of ultra-fast, ultra-low latency and reliable 5G networks, we are now eyeing to extend Smart’s superior 5G experience outside of Metro Manila to benefit more content creators, streamers and gamers, unlocking endless 5G-powered opportunities in every corner of the nation.”

This event is the latest milestone in Smart’s continued mission to be at the forefront of driving 5G adoption in the Philippines. On top of continuously expanding and enhancing its mobile network, which covers 97% of the population nationwide, Smart has also introduced the country’s most affordable 5G-capable smartphones, including the Smart ZTE Blade A75, which is the first 5G smartphone to be available at the affordable price point of Php4,990, making upgrading to 5G as easy as visiting a Smart Store.
