Home has always been a place of comfort, and Filipinos are discovering many ways to take it to the next level. For 57-year-old photographer Louie Aguinaldo, his hectic lifestyle has become more manageable with the help of his smart gadgets and his reliable internet.

“Stable and fast internet is now a necessity. With a lot of learning and business being done from home, a household may have several devices simultaneously online, so a good internet service provider is essential. All our home entertainment, for one, is through web-based streaming platforms or YouTube,” Aguinaldo said.

Aguinaldo also uses his PLDT Home Fiber to look for routine information, such as recipes and video tutorials, and to communicate with family and friends via video calls when at home.

His interest in new technologies led him to getting an Amazon Echo, or Alexa, when it first came out. He also got a Google Home Mini, allowing him to integrate his other devices, including his phone. When these devices are connected to his WiFi mesh bundled with his internet plan, Aguinaldo is able to cast videos through his device, set alarms or reminders, or even translate words in other languages, all via voice command.

“I am very pleased with my PLDT Home Fiber. It has consistently high speeds in my area. I even have lights connected to my Google Home network so that I can verbally turn them on and off,” he added.

Aguinaldo is among many Filipinos who are enjoying a digital lifestyle in their homes.

“We are focusing on three key things: network expansion, network upgrade and improved customer experience to better serve our customers in the new normal and enable families to shift to the digital lifestyle at home,” said PLDT SVP and Head of Consumer Business – Home Jeremiah de la Cruz.

PLDT Home has remained the undisputed fastest broadband network in the Philippines, outpacing telco rivals with a Speed Score of 77.24 at the Ookla Speedtest Awards for Q3-Q4 2021.

PLDT also consistently leads the Ookla® Speedtest Awards™ in the past four years as a result of the telco giant’s aggressive network expansion initiatives. In the second half of 2021, PLDT Home launched its biggest speed upgrade for customers with thrice as much speeds versus the previous broadband plans. In December 2021, PLDT Home launched a 10,000 megabits per second (Mbps) fiber-optic service to enable smart homes in the Philippines. The service was piloted in Metro Manila, and will be rolled out to key cities such as Cebu and Davao in 2022.

These innovations are underpinned by PLDT’s nationwide 803,000-kilometer fiber infrastructure, extending its reach to 15.5 million homes passed, and with 6.25 million fiber-powered ports.
