IBM hackathon an opportunity for students to build an app with Bluemix

In collaboration with DevCon and NexCon 3, the ultimate celebration of science fiction and fantasy in the Philippines happening on April 2-3 at SMX MOA, IBM has organized Hack-A-Superpower with Bluemix, a one of a kind a chance for high school and college students to build an app for social good – an opportunity to be a superhero using their coding skills!

To further enhance the hackathon experience, participants will be using Bluemix, IBM’s open-standards, cloud-based platform for building, managing, and running apps of all types, such as web, mobile, big data, and smart devices. The best thing about Bluemix is Watson, IBM’s famed artificially intelligent computer which can be operated using natural language (remember Jarvis from Iron Man?). The computer has even beaten humans in a popular quiz shoe, Jeopardy. Watson is so powerful, it is now being used in cancer treatment, law, finance, weather prediction, and many others!

10 teams will compete as the top 3 finalists. Judging of participants will be on Sunday, April 3, 10:00 am. Finalists will be awarded on Sunday, April 3, at 3:00 pm at the NexCon 3 main tent. Our judges are Bryan Bibat, President, Developers Connect Philippines (DevCon); Adrian Arciaga, NexCon; TJ Dimacali, Science & Technology Editor, GMA News Online and President, Cyberpress; Dr. Jay Sabido, IBM PH R&D Executive, and Lope Doromal, IBM PH Chief Technologist.
