Lenovo rolls out new line of handsets called the Vibe

Lenovo has unveiled a new line of handsets called the Vibe, the first member being the Vibe X, a smartphone that runs Android 4.2 and features a 5-inch full HD screen that can display images at 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.

Powered by a quad-core MTK 6589T 1.5GHz processor, the Vibe X comes with a 16GB of internal storage and a 2GB RAM. The phone is 6.9mm millimeters thick and weighs 121 grams, which is just about the weight of five AA batteries. The Lenovo Vibe X packs two advanced cameras: a 13-megapixel, rear-facing and 5-megapixel, front-facing camera, which is better than most smartphones.

The Vibe X connects to 2G and 3G networks but does not support LTE.

Now available at a price of Php19,999, the Vibe X also features a 2000 mAh Li-polymer battery, which charges twice the energy capacity of a typical cellphone.

The smartphone also comes preloaded with customized applications for convenient sharing of photos, videos, and documents, malicious software protection and data restoration. Some of these important apps are the ShareIt where a file can be shared or transferred 60 times faster than Bluetooth.

The phone comes in a premium polycarbonate silver or white body and a laser-engraved 3D tactile finish. Its five-inch 20/20 Vision display boasts of a 1920×1080 full HD resolution, an IPS panel for wide-viewing angles and ultra-sharp 440 pixels per inch (PPI). The 20/20 Vision Display sits under a scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen beveled at the edges.

“We are bullish on the growth prospects of the smartphone market in the Philippines and the launch of the Lenovo Vibe X is a reflection of our belief in the potential and importance of the Philippine market to Lenovo,” said Michael Ngan, Country General Manager of Lenovo Philippines.

A worldwide mobile phone study conducted by the International Data Corporation (IDC) showed that the worldwide mobile phone market is projected to grow at 7.3% year on year on 2013. This growth is driven by the global smartphone shipments that are expected to surpass one billion units for the first time in a single year.

The report also claimed that the Philippines is one of the fastest growing smartphone markets worldwide with a market size that hit 2.6 million last year and which is expected to reach 3.6 million this year. Ngan revealed that based on an IDC study, Lenovo placed third among vendors in the global smartphone market in the third quarter of 2013.
