Electronic products maker LG Electronics has launched in the Philippines the world’s first Curved OLED (organic light emitting diode) 55-inch TV which offers additional features including the company’s Cinema 3D technology and Smart TV capabilities.
According to Hoony Bae, VP of LG Electronics Philippines’ Home Entertainment division, “being a progressive country, the local market will surely enjoy getting a feel of the next generation TV technology, allowing optimal TV viewing experience, comfort, and entertainment. LG will continue to establish innovations like this that will ultimately benefit the consumer.”
The LG Curved OLED TV is said to open a whole new concept in TV with such features as a transition from the flat screen to the curved. The TV’s design, considered a “first” in the industry, already earned recognition from international award-giving bodies such as the Red Dot Design Award.
The curved screen was naturally done to fit into vision range and in order to provide equal distance from all parts of the screen to the eyes.
The 55-inch Curved OLED TV is thin at 4.3mm, an improvement in shape and form over the previous TV types. Approximately the size of three credit cards, the TV’s width is at least one-fourth the width of a conventional TV. It reduces power usage and distortions even at extreme angles as backlights are not needed unlike LCD displays do.
The Curved OLED TV, which is only 16.3 kilogram light, has a seamless finish made of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. A wall mount, specifically for the TV, is provided including the world’s first transparent film-type speakers in the clear stand. There are also two-channel speakers.
The OLED technology-based curved TV produces a picture quality enhanced with LG’s WRGB technology. This is a four-color pixel system that adds a white sub-pixel that modifies the conventional three colors and enhances both color range and accuracy. Complementing this is LG’s built-in Color Refiner and Infinite contrast Ratio for tonal enhancement and optimal contrast levels in any brightness or viewing angle.
The OLED TV offers 3D technology which uses 3D glasses that are flicker-free, battery-free and economical. A flicker-free 3D provides brighter 3D images that jumps out of the screen.
Other smart functions include the Magic Remote, which lets a user points at the screen to move a cursor around, simplifying navigation around the Web or loading up apps; and LG Smart TV’s SmartShare, allowing the TV to be connected to other devices.
The LG Curved OLED TV is available in the market this December for P499,999.
