Lenovo eyes youth market with new low-cost smartphones

After being named the world’s no. 1 PC maker, Lenovo is rapidly scaling to attack the vibrant smartphone and tablet market to become a “PC Plus” leader.

After being named the world’s no. 1 PC maker, Lenovo is rapidly scaling to attack the vibrant smartphone and tablet market with new low-cost smartphones.

The company has released dual SIM Android-powered dual and quad core processing smartphones under the Lenovo A series. Consisting of the A269i, A369i, A516, and A850, the new smartphone models are targeted at youngsters who are looking for feature-filled phones that are easy on the pocket.

“We are strengthening our smartphone footprint in the Philippines with the ‘value for money’ A series smartphones to cater to the youth market who wants to be connected 24/7 and to the rest of the Philippine population who have yet to own a smartphone,” said Michael Ngan, Country General Manager, Lenovo Philippines.

The first on the series is the Lenovo A269i which is the most affordable at P2,799. Available by the end of October, this model is powered by a 1GHz dual core processor running on Android’s Gingerbread v2.3.6 operating system, and features a 3.5-inch HVGA screen display.

In an elegant black color, the dual-SIM Lenovo A269i is equipped with a two-megapixel rear camera, 256MB of RAM, and a 512MB internal storage with support for a microSD card bay. It has a pre-installed applications consisting of Twitter, Skype, Google Apps, AccuWeather, Norton Mobile Security, Diamond Wonderland, and Fishing Joy.

The next on the list is the Lenovo A369i, tagged by the company as the all-star entertainment smartphone within the reach of the mobile-consuming public.

The Android OS JellyBean v4.2.2-based smartphone is powered by a 1.3GHz dual core processor and boasts of a 512MB of RAM and a 4GB internal storage which supports microSD card. The device has a four-inch WVGA screen display and a dual-SIM that is capable of combining work and play in one phone.

The Lenovo A369i features Lenovo AnyShare, a transmission tool that is 60 times faster than BlueTooth, which sends and receives contacts, apps, photos and videos. Its pre-installed apps include Twitter, Skype, Google Apps, AccuWeather, Norton Mobile Security, Diamond Wonderland, Fishing Joy and Facebook Messenger. It is already available and retails at P4,499.

On the other hand, the charcoal-grey colored Lenovo A516 smartphone that runs Android’s  JellyBean v.4.2.2 operating system, has elegant curved edges that fit comfortably and neatly into the user’s hand. The dual-SIM device is furnished with a 4.5-inch display which boasts of a 178-degree wide view IPS screen to view content clearly. It also has a five-megapixel rear camera and 0.3-megapixel front camera that are capable of taking higher resolution photos and videos.

A user of this model can enjoy swift operating system with its 1.3GHz dual core processor, backed up by a 4GB of built-in storage with support for microSD card. Having a solid battery life that allows non-stop talk time for up to 23 hours, the Lenovo A516 is currently available for P5,999.

Available in black and white color variants, the Android JellyBean 4.2-based Lenovo A850 smartphone is powered by a 1.3GHz quad core CPU and is packed with super-sized 5.5-inch display that features a 178-degree wide-viewing IPS screen. Highly recommended for the movie junkie or those who love browsing the Web, the dual-SIM device is backed up by a 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 32GB via a microSD card. It is also equipped with a five-megapixel rear camera with flash for capturing life’s precious moments in photo or video any time of the day. The Lenovo A850 will be available by the end of October and sells at P9,999.

The newly-released smartphones are available through the authorized resellers of Open Communications, Lenovo’s exclusive smartphone distributor in the Philippines.
