Opera BrowserSun Cellular has partnered with Opera Software to offer subscribers unlimited mobile Internet browsing using the latter’s browser—the Opera Mini—for Php15 per day.

Opera Mini, which is compatible with 3,000 different handsets, provides a more efficient browsing experience by compressing the size of each webpage to as little as 10%, making it possible for online-based content to load faster, according to Ivollex Hodiny, Growth Director (Asia) for Opera Software. Hodiny adds there are currently 350 million monthly users of Opera Mini.

With the Browse On: Opera 15 offering, Sun and Opera aim to give more users in the Philippines fast and affordable access to the Web. Video and music streaming are not included though.

“Now you don’t need to go to a mobile hotspot just to connect to the Internet,” says Dexter Chan, manager for Mobile Internet of Sun Cellular and Smart Communications. Chan adds that there are 35 million mobile Internet users in the Philippines, growing at 22% year-on-year. Of the mobile Internet users, 15% use a smartphone, a huge growth market and an opportunity for both companies.

The Opera Mini data plan is available for the Opera Mini browser 4.4, and above, for BlackBerry, J2ME, S60, iOS and Android phones. To access the 1 day Browse On Opera service, text OPERA15 to 247. If you’re a first time internet user, text NET to 2300 for free for your free Internet settings.
