New player Voltai wants two-wheel fleets to make the swap to EVs

With a battery swapping station present on the scene, supplemented by its own mobile application, the invited participants — from logistics, food and beverage delivery, and ride hailing companies — were immersed in the experience of navigating Voltai’s two-wheel battery swap ecosystem — the first of its scale in the country.

Startup venture Voltai introduced itself and the AP01 — its inaugural 2-watt two-wheeled electric vehicle designed for Philippine roads — to industry leaders and fleet operators during an exclusive event in a Cleanfuel station in Pasig City.

With a battery swapping station present on the scene, supplemented by its own mobile application, the invited participants — from logistics, food and beverage delivery, and ride hailing companies — were immersed in the experience of navigating Voltai’s two-wheel battery swap ecosystem — the first of its scale in the country.

In the event, participants were given the opportunity to test ride the AP01 and track its battery health, location, and performance via the mobile app supported by Google Maps. They also had the chance to replace a depleted battery with a fully-charged one in a matter of minutes, bypassing the traditional EV charging method, which takes way longer.

Still in its pilot stage, Voltai has already partnered with fuel retailer Cleanfuel, as well as co-living and dormitory brand MyTown, to situate 15 battery swapping stations within their respective locations. Voltai plans to further expand next year in Metro Manila and nearby provinces and establish after-sales support.

“The Voltai pilot preview marks the first step toward building the future of fleet e-mobility in the Philippines — smarter, cleaner, and more cost-efficient,” said 1882 Energy Ventures Head of Ideation and Voltai Co-founder and CEO Fazlur Abdul Rahman. “As a business-to-business solution, it addresses downtime, frequent maintenance, and fuel cost challenges for fleet businesses and riders, while also providing remote visibility on utilization.”

Voltai’s business model sees it leasing its EVs and batteries for a fixed fee, shielding consumer businesses from rising vehicle costs and fuel price hikes, making it easier to scale cleaner and more sustainable fleets and lower their overall emissions. By making the transition to electric-powered fleets, fleet businesses can also expect less maintenance costs.

“We are very excited to share Voltai to the Philippine market and provide businesses with fleet requirements a competitive edge through lower costs, higher efficiency, and reduced emissions without the need to shoulder heavy upfront costs,” shared Rahman.

Voltai is a startup under 1882 Energy Ventures, a company under Aboitiz Power Corporation, focused on helping shape the decarbonization and decentralization of the energy system in the Philippines and beyond.
