Wells Fargo Philippines rolls out electric buses to advance sustainable employee transport

The electric buses are phased into Wells Fargo’s existing shared shuttle program in its Philippine offices, which has long been appreciated by employees for providing a safe, reliable, and free shuttle service.

Wells Fargo Philippines launched its first fleet of electric buses, expanding its employee shuttle service with low-emission transport options that support convenient mobility, operational efficiency, and local air quality improvement efforts.

The electric buses are phased into Wells Fargo’s existing shared shuttle program in its Philippine offices, which has long been appreciated by employees for providing a safe, reliable, and free shuttle service. With the addition of electric vehicles, the program is scaling up on seat capacity and offering an alternative to traditional fuel-powered vehicles, while maintaining the same level of safety and convenience employees rely on.

“Our free shuttle service has been one of our most appreciated employee programs, part of efforts in sustainability but also to creating a great place to work,” said Mike Whyte, Country Head of Wells Fargo Philippines. “By introducing electric buses, we are enhancing our employees’ well-being through better mobility options while continuing to operate responsibly within our communities.”

Wells Fargo Philippines selected Global Electric Transport (GET) as its partner through a rigorous bidding process. The choice reflects the focus of Wells Fargo Philippines on working with companies that share its values around innovation, safety, and long-term impact. GET’s ability to deliver advanced EV technology, backed by a reliable charging network and strong local service support, made them a strategic fit.

Freddie Tinga, President of GET Philippines, emphasized, “With this fleet, Wells Fargo is helping advance sustainable employee mobility in the Philippines. We are proud to work with a company that puts employee experience and smart transport solutions at the forefront.”

The electric buses are equipped with fast-charging capability (20% to 90% in 45 minutes), air conditioning, accessibility features, GPS tracking, and seating capacity for up to 25 passengers per unit. The buses will be integrated into the MoveInSync app of Wells Fargo Philippines, allowing employees to seamlessly book and track rides. The fleet will benefit from GET’s extensive network of fast chargers strategically located across Metro Manila, with dedicated charging stations also being installed at Wells Fargo Philippines offices in East Metro Manila.

The rollout included 10 EV units in May, with another 10 coming this August. Routes are selected based on terminal availability and route efficiency, while the program also supports Wells Fargo’s enterprise-wide operational sustainability goals.

The initiative comes at a perfect time as Metro Manila commuters continue to face challenges related to air quality and traffic congestion. According to the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) in its 2023 report Cost of Air Pollution in the Philippines, air pollution in the country leads to 66,000 premature deaths a year and costs over $1 billion in healthcare.

GET’s electric buses are developed in partnership with global EV technology leaders including QEV Technologies (Spain) and EV Dynamics and are manufactured with support from Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (IMI), a subsidiary of Ayala Corporation.
