{"id":9193,"date":"2015-06-13T11:33:29","date_gmt":"2015-06-13T03:33:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/?p=9193"},"modified":"2015-06-13T11:33:29","modified_gmt":"2015-06-13T03:33:29","slug":"ict-expo-for-pwds-set-to-promote-digital-entrepreneurship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/2015\/06\/13\/ict-expo-for-pwds-set-to-promote-digital-entrepreneurship\/","title":{"rendered":"ICT Expo for PWDs set to promote digital entrepreneurship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In line with the annual Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Month, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) ICT Office is launching the first\u00a0Inclusive ICT 4 BIZ 2015 Expo: Connecting Businesses with the Right People\u00a0set on\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_793842133\"><span class=\"aQJ\">June 17<\/span><\/span>\u00a0at the\u00a0Sequoia Hotel, Quezon City.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DOST.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9194\" src=\"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DOST.jpg\" alt=\"DOST\" width=\"620\" height=\"372\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DOST.jpg 620w, http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/DOST-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>ICT 4 BIZ 2015,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>created in partnership with the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), is designed to promote digital entrepreneurship among persons with disabilities (PWDs) by providing a conducive venue for business-to-business (B2B) interactions, as well as seminars on digital entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n<p>The expo aims to connect Filipino PWDs engaged in animation, web\/graphics design, web content management, coaching, and transcription services to business institutions and organizations that need such services.<\/p>\n<p>ICT 4 BIZ 2015\u00a0is the DOST &#8211; ICT Office\u2019s answer to the government mandate of providing equal and fair employment opportunities to PWDs which make up 1.53% of the population, according to a 2010 Census. Furthermore, Republic Act No. 7277 or the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons was implemented in 1992 to protect their welfare. It also prohibits any form of discrimination against them, especially at the workplace.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the ICT Office champions the exploration of ICT as an expansive sector teeming with opportunities for all Filipinos.
