We\u2019re clothes shopping and, if we happened to pass by the tech area of malls, he\u2019d eye gaming-related stuff \u2013 e.g. those gaming consoles for playing video games, newer mobile phone capable of supporting hardcore gamers, and so on.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Budget if, of course, always an issue (i.e. no one\u2019s claiming to be rich here).<\/p>\n<p>And so when nubia announced the nubia (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt><\/dl><br style=\"clear: both\" \/>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<h2><strong>FIRST IMPRESSIONS<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>From the get-go, you know who the nubia Neo 5 5G is targeting \u2013 i.e. gamers (let\u2019s qualify that by saying \u201cbudget-conscious gamers\u201d). The box itself boasts of nubia\u2019s tie-up with the video game Delta Force, and there are not-so-subtle references to gaming ( e.g. the \u201cAI Gaming\u201d claim, also prominent on the box).<\/p>\n<p>This bent towards a gaming identity is apparent when you look at the phone itself. To mention:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The back cams have geometric shapes (which may appear trendy, but noticeably not nice-feeling as they end up with \u201cedges\u201d);<\/li>\n<li>The sides have embedded game-y swirls; and<\/li>\n<li>Highlighted is the series\u2019 iconic eye design (at the back, beside the cams).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This phone screams \u201cgaming\u201d; look for subtlety elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>All the buttons are where they\u2019re supposed to be \u2013 e.g. the red power button (a standout for me) on the right side, volume rack and SIM tray with a microSD card slot on the left side, mic USB-C port and jack at the bottom, <em>et cetera<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>TURNED ON<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>NEO 5 5G is powered by the UNISOC T9300 5G chipset, and has 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. Those aren\u2019t bad considering this is a budget gadget. And the power is apparent when you set it up; it may not have been lighting fast, but it\u2019s faster than expected.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as the phone turns on, the first thing you\u2019d notice is the wallpaper that, yet again, emphasizes the unit\u2019s gaming intent.<\/p>\n<p>nubia NEO 5 has a 6.8-inch IPS LCD with HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. To be blunt:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The 1940 x 900 resolution isn\u2019t flagship level (to be expected, I suppose), though this isn\u2019t to say it is bad at all.<\/li>\n<li>The unit\u2019s 120Hz refresh rate (317 PPI) makes its use smooth so that there\u2019s no \u201clag\u201d when scrolling or whatever while using it.<\/li>\n<li>The brightness is fine in- and outdoor, though \u2013 OOTB (that is, without changing anything in the setting) \u2013 the unit kept \u201ccorrecting\u201d me by darkening the screen while I was shooting outside. This was peculiar as it made me stop shooting now and then to readjust.<\/li>\n<li>The audio isn\u2019t <em>tunog-lata<\/em>, but it\u2019s not immersive either.<\/li>\n<li>The interface isn\u2019t cluttered, at least \u2013 e.g. there\u2019s bloatware (thanks to a number of pre-installed apps), but at least they weren\u2019t unceremoniously dumped onscreen. Instead, they\u2019re grouped into folders, thereby keeping the home screen clean.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Oh yeah, using the NEO 5 5G \u2013 which runs on MyOS 16 based on Android 16 \u2013 for gaming was better-than-good even if, admittedly, it had issues \u2013 e.g. lighter games were okay (like <em>Nine Nights<\/em> and <em>Miya<\/em>). But <em>Genshin Impact<\/em>, <em>Wuthering Waves<\/em>, and <em>Warzone Mobile<\/em> pushed the phone to some bring, apparent perhaps I the quite-obvious warming up of the unit. Not that anyone\u2019s complaining here, considering this unit admits it\u2019s a budget gaming phone.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>PICTURE-TAKING TIME<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>nubia NEO 5 5G has a 13-megapixel main camera, a 2-megapixel secondary sensor, and a 16-megapixel selfie shooter in the front.<\/p>\n<p>Some observations:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The pics are actually decent \u2013 e.g. I took pics that highlight urban decay, and nubia NEO 5 5G captured the dirt, the grime, <em>et cetera<\/em>. It was a nice surprise for me.<\/li>\n<li>The colors of the pics are muted, appearing \u201cantiquated\u201d, in a manner of speaking. Nothing that filters can\u2019t edit, of course.<\/li>\n<li>I encountered issues when shooting moving objects \u2013 e.g. a pic of a passing jeepney was blurry, and not
