{"id":72428,"date":"2025-12-05T07:46:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T23:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/?p=72428"},"modified":"2025-12-01T11:53:35","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T03:53:35","slug":"lenovo-sustains-momentum-in-esg-journey-with-smarter-solutions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/2025\/12\/05\/lenovo-sustains-momentum-in-esg-journey-with-smarter-solutions\/","title":{"rendered":"Lenovo sustains momentum in ESG journey with smarter solutions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Lenovo continues to accelerate its commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) excellence, building on a proven track record of integrating sustainability into every aspect of its business \u2014 from product design and packaging, to supply chain operations and customer solutions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With more than a decade of sustainability reporting, Lenovo has set ambitious near- and long-term goals, including a commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative\u2019s (SBTi) Net-Zero Standard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Journey to Net-Zero<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the path toward its 2050 net-zero goal, Lenovo has set 2030 reduction targets that include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions from a FY 2018\/19 baseline.<\/li>\n<li>35% reduction in Scope 3 emissions from use of sold products.<\/li>\n<li>66.5% reduction in Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services.<\/li>\n<li>25% reduction in Scope 3 emissions from upstream transportation and distribution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lenovo engineers have also pioneered innovations such as low-temperature solder (LTS) technology, which has reduced 10,000 tons of CO\u2082 emissions since 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Driving a Circular Economy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lenovo is embedding circularity in its products and services. Since 2005, the company has used over 100 million pounds of net recycled plastic in its products and packaging. Through Asset Recovery Services (ARS), Lenovo refurbishes, reuses, and recycles end-of-life IT assets, helping customers reduce waste and security risks.<\/p>\n<p>By FY 2025\/26, Lenovo targets to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure 100% of PC products contain post-consumer recycled content materials.<\/li>\n<li>Achieve 76% repair rate for returned PC parts, extending product lifecycles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Smarter, More Sustainable Packaging<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lenovo\u2019s packaging strategy prioritizes waste reduction without compromising protection. Key milestones include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eliminating 3,737 metric tons of packaging consumption by weight since 2008.<\/li>\n<li>Reducing packaging weight by 30% through bamboo fiber use in ThinkPad X1 retail boxes.<\/li>\n<li>Cutting 54 tons of plastic tape annually from ThinkPad packaging.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment that 90% of PC products\u2019 plastic packaging will come from recycled materials by FY 2025\/26.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Partnerships also play a key role: Lenovo works with Intel\u00ae, ranked Barron\u2019s #1 Most Sustainable Company in America, to integrate bamboo and sugarcane materials into ThinkPad X1 packaging.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Building More Sustainable Supply Chains and Customer Solutions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lenovo is also transforming its global supply chain, with a goal of removing 1 million tons of GHG emissions by FY 2025\/26. Partnerships with industry leaders in renewable energy and sustainable transport \u2014 such as DB Schenker, Lufthansa Cargo, and Maersk \u2014 are reducing CO\u2082 emissions across shipping routes.<\/p>\n<p>For customers, Lenovo offers Sustainability Solutions designed to help organizations lower their IT footprint. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bulk packaging and reduced-carbon transport services.<\/li>\n<li>CO\u2082 Offset Services verified by global climate action standards.<\/li>\n<li>TruScale as-a-Service models, which reduce overprovisioning and e-waste.<\/li>\n<li>Asset Recovery Services diverted 31,532 metric tons of products for recycling and reuse in 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A Smarter, More Sustainable Future<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSmarter technology for all builds a more resilient way forward,\u201d said Michael Ngan, President and General Manager of Lenovo Philippines. \u201cAs the world faces growing complexity and uncertainty, Lenovo is committed to innovation that not only drives progress but also ensures long-term value for people, communities, and the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lenovo\u2019s global sustainability commitment was further highlighted this week at the I.T. Interaction Philippines Inc.
