{"id":69359,"date":"2025-04-25T07:29:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-24T23:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/?p=69359"},"modified":"2025-04-22T11:31:27","modified_gmt":"2025-04-22T03:31:27","slug":"smart-earns-global-recognition-for-workplace-safety-and-environmental-responsibility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/2025\/04\/25\/smart-earns-global-recognition-for-workplace-safety-and-environmental-responsibility\/","title":{"rendered":"Smart earns global recognition for workplace safety and environmental responsibility"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Smart Communications, Inc., the wireless arm of PLDT, has received international recognition for meeting top global standards in workplace safety, environmental care, and service quality.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company\u2019s Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Group was awarded three major ISO standards:<br>\u2022 ISO 14001 for environmental management<br>\u2022 ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety<br>\u2022 ISO 9001 for quality management<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These global benchmarks confirm that Smart is following the best practices in protecting its people, its customers, and the planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But what does ISO mean? The International Organization for Standardization creates global guidelines to help organizations operate more responsibly and effectively. Earning ISO certification means a company has been independently assessed and proven to meet these high standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Smart\u2019s case, the certifications were awarded by BSI Philippines, the local arm of the British Standards Institution\u2014one of the world\u2019s most trusted organizations for auditing and certifying companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leonard A. Gonzales, Vice President and Head of Property, Facilities, and Asset Resiliency Management, said the recognition is both an honor and a call to action. \u201cIn 2025, our focus is clear: to keep our people safe, especially in high-risk environments,\u201d he said. \u201cWith rising temperatures, we face greater health and safety risks at our core sites. We\u2019re also paying closer attention to mental health, and to the security of our teams in disaster-prone areas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The awarding ceremony took place at Smart\u2019s Makati headquarters, with BSI Philippines Managing Director Ava Taniajura formally presenting the ISO distinctions. PLDT and Smart Chief Sustainability Officer Melissa V.
