(AFPI), the company behind Beep cards, have announced a strategic partnership to enable contactless acceptance of Mastercard cards in the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3 Line) and buses for the first time in the Philippines.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In support of the government\u2019s goal to accelerate the digitization of payments, and in line with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas\u2019 Digital Payments Transformation Roadmap, the \u2018Mastercard-Beep EMV Contactless Acceptance in Transport Partnership\u2019 aims to broaden contactless acceptance in the Philippines. This initiative will bring greater convenience to the consumer commuting experience, simplifying access and enabling travelers to tap-in and tap-out with their Mastercard card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Powered by Mastercard\u2019s world-class payments technology, cardholders will be able to tap their prepaid, debit, or credit Mastercard cards on public transport without the need to purchase separate tickets for entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the partnership, the two parties have agreed to collaborate on a pilot program, rolled out in phases across MRT stations and BGC and EDSA buses, with the intention to scale contactless payments acceptance across ferries and other modes of transportation in the future, and eventually across the country. The program will be exclusively used in Beep\u2019s network and will introduce and expand open loop transit payments powered by\u00a0Mastercard Gateway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">JJ Moreno, President and Chief Executive Officer, Beep\u00a0said that the partnership will give way for more Filipinos to experience convenience in public transport through a seamless payments experience. \u201cThis is expected to benefit\u00a0millions of Filipino\u00a0commuters in Metro Manila,\u00a0enhancing smart mobility through initiatives that bring our transit systems in line with global transport standards. We are excited to collaborate with Mastercard to boost the acceptance of contactless payments in transport and further improve commuters\u2019 payments experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMastercard&#8217;s mission is to power a digital economy that benefits everyone, everywhere, by making payments safe, simple, smart, and accessible. This partnership with Beep will help enhance the commuting experience for all Mastercard cardholders.
