{"id":51239,"date":"2022-09-07T11:01:12","date_gmt":"2022-09-07T03:01:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/?p=51239"},"modified":"2022-09-07T11:01:13","modified_gmt":"2022-09-07T03:01:13","slug":"dost-sei-launches-stem-competitions-anew","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/2022\/09\/07\/dost-sei-launches-stem-competitions-anew\/","title":{"rendered":"DOST-SEI launches\u00a0STEM competitions\u00a0anew"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>As\u00a0the nation prepares for the comeback of full in-person classes, the\u00a0DOST-SEI\u00a0continues to\u00a0strengthen its efforts to\u00a0bring\u00a0Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics\u00a0(STEM)\u00a0to\u00a0young\u00a0Filipinos.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Institute has recently announced that it is now accepting proposals for the 6th Indie- Siyensya filmmaking contest and the 6th imake.wemake:create.innovate.collaborate competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, Indie-Siyensya&nbsp;will highlight the theme, \u201cCommunicating Climate Change.\u201d&nbsp;The competition has two categories&nbsp;open for all Filipino citizens. The&nbsp;Youth&nbsp;Category is&nbsp;open for&nbsp;filmmakers who are 13 to 18 years old,&nbsp;while&nbsp;the&nbsp;Open&nbsp;Category is open for&nbsp;individuals who are&nbsp;at least 19 years old.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Filmmakers&nbsp;interested to join&nbsp;the&nbsp;Youth&nbsp;Category should&nbsp;submit a 10-minute science explainer&nbsp;video&nbsp;to creatively&nbsp;elucidate science concepts and theories&nbsp;while those joining&nbsp;the&nbsp;Open&nbsp;Category&nbsp;should&nbsp;showcase&nbsp;a documentary to&nbsp;capture the&nbsp;theme \u201cCommunicating&nbsp;Climate&nbsp;Change&nbsp;Action\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For contest mechanics and other information, interested&nbsp;participants&nbsp;may visit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/6thIndieSiyensyaContestMechanics\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/bit.ly\/6thIndieSiyensyaContestMechanics<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;DOST-SEI&nbsp;is also on the lookout for&nbsp;innovative students&nbsp;who are ready&nbsp;to address&nbsp;important societal and community issues as it opens the&nbsp;6<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;imake.wemake&nbsp;competition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To join, a team composed of&nbsp;four&nbsp;(4)&nbsp;Grade 11 or Grade 12 students and one&nbsp;(1)&nbsp;science&nbsp;teacher&nbsp;as coach&nbsp;per school may submit a project proposal addressing any of&nbsp;the following areas: food safety, security, traffic\/road congestion, health, education, disaster mitigation, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and environment.&nbsp;This should be accompanied by a&nbsp;2-3 minute&nbsp;video supporting the concept.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interested teams may follow&nbsp;imake.wemake\u2019s&nbsp;official Facebook page&nbsp;at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/imake.wemake\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/imake.wemake<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;for upcoming announcements.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imake.wemake&nbsp;recently awarded a new batch of young innovators&nbsp;during the&nbsp;final presentation and awarding ceremony&nbsp;held on&nbsp;August 26, 2022.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is important that we continue these kinds of&nbsp;competitions&nbsp;that promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics&nbsp;among the Filipino youth&nbsp;to&nbsp;provide&nbsp;them&nbsp;opportunities&nbsp;to reach their maximum potential.
