{"id":43030,"date":"2021-05-03T10:10:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-03T02:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/?p=43030"},"modified":"2021-05-01T10:13:16","modified_gmt":"2021-05-01T02:13:16","slug":"paymaya-is-first-phl-fintech-firm-to-enable-merchants-with-qr-ph","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/2021\/05\/03\/paymaya-is-first-phl-fintech-firm-to-enable-merchants-with-qr-ph\/","title":{"rendered":"PayMaya is first Phl fintech firm to enable merchants with QR Ph"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Digital financial services leader\u00a0PayMaya\u00a0is\u00a0the first financial technology firm in the country to adopt\u00a0QR\u00a0Ph\u00a0for merchants, the national\u00a0quick response (QR)\u00a0code standard\u00a0for\u00a0consumer-to-business\u00a0payments launched by the\u00a0Bangko\u00a0Sentral\u00a0ng Pilipinas (BSP)\u00a0today.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With PayMaya&#8217;s rollout of\u00a0QR\u00a0Ph\u00a0to its merchant partners, businesses can easily accept cashless and contactless payments not just from a PayMaya wallet user but also from any accountholder of\u00a0QR\u00a0Ph\u00a0participating banks and other e-wallets.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cToday marks another milestone\u00a0in our mission to build a Cashless\u00a0Philippines as\u00a0PayMaya\u00a0becomes\u00a0the first\u00a0fintech company to\u00a0support the\u00a0BSP\u00a0in its effort to accelerate digital payments around the country through the launch of\u00a0QR\u00a0Ph\u00a0for merchants,\u201d said\u00a0Shailesh Baidwan, President of\u00a0PayMaya.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a participating institution,&nbsp;PayMaya&nbsp;is now rolling out the&nbsp;QR&nbsp;Ph&nbsp;standard to its more than 116,000&nbsp;merchant partners using its payment devices, gateway, and&nbsp;QR&nbsp;displays.&nbsp;PayMaya&nbsp;is the largest non-bank payment acquirer in the&nbsp;Philippines, enabling all types of enterprises to accept cashless payments &#8211; from big retailers, e-Commerce players, and government to micro, small, and medium-sized (MSME) merchants, including<em>&nbsp;sari-sari<\/em>&nbsp;store owners.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For merchants, this means a more streamlined payment acceptance experience,&nbsp;eliminating&nbsp;the need to&nbsp;use&nbsp;multiple&nbsp;QR&nbsp;codes catering to single wallets or accounts.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Building towards a Cashless&nbsp;Philippines<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the&nbsp;QR&nbsp;Ph&nbsp;for merchants&nbsp;launch,&nbsp;Baidwan&nbsp;reaffirmed&nbsp;PayMaya&#8217;s&nbsp;thrust for safer, faster, and more inclusive digital payments experience.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;As we conquer the New Normal,&nbsp;QR&nbsp;Ph&nbsp;for retail payments will surely get&nbsp;more businesses&#8211;from micro and small enterprises&nbsp;to the largest merchants&#8211;to go digital as more Filipinos can now easily and safely do interoperable digital payments using&nbsp;their&nbsp;mobile&nbsp;phones,&#8221; Baidwan said during his remarks at the virtual launch event.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;QR\u00a0Ph\u00a0makes digital payments easier for merchants and consumers,\u00a0help spur cashless\u00a0commerce,\u00a0and promote inclusivity,&#8221; he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Initial participating financial institutions for the initiative include&nbsp;All Bank, Asia United Bank,&nbsp;China Bank,&nbsp;RCBC,&nbsp;Robinsons Bank,&nbsp;and Union Bank.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The BSP is targeting a full nationwide rollout in September this year as it targets&nbsp;to achieve a \u201ccash-lite\u201d economy by 2023. Under its&nbsp;Digital Payments Transformation Roadmap, the BSP envisions to convert 50% of the total volume of retail payments into digital and increase the number of adults with financial accounts to 70% of the population.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In late 2019,&nbsp;PayMaya&nbsp;also became the first e-wallet in the&nbsp;Philippines to adopt the&nbsp;QR&nbsp;Ph&nbsp;standard for person-to-person payments, allowing&nbsp;PayMaya&nbsp;users to receive fund transfers from&nbsp;other participating banks and e-wallets by simply scanning the&nbsp;QR&nbsp;Ph&nbsp;code in their&nbsp;PayMaya&nbsp;app.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWith cashless payments now the default for many Filipinos,\u00a0we are committed to introducing new innovations that will help both consumers and merchants safely and conveniently accept digital payments for purchases, whether it\u2019s in their\u00a0physical stores or online,\u201d\u00a0Baidwan said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PayMaya&nbsp;is the only end-to-end digital payments ecosystem enabler in the&nbsp;Philippines with platforms and services that cut across consumers, merchants, communities, and government.&nbsp;Through its enterprise business, it is the largest digital payments processor for key industries in the country including &#8220;everyday&#8221; merchants such as the largest retail, food, gas, and eCommerce merchants as well as government agencies and units.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through its app and wallet,&nbsp;PayMaya&nbsp;provides over 28 million Filipinos with access to financial services.
