{"id":39279,"date":"2020-06-29T16:02:04","date_gmt":"2020-06-29T08:02:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/?p=39279"},"modified":"2020-06-29T16:02:06","modified_gmt":"2020-06-29T08:02:06","slug":"broadband-forum-unveils-usp-certification-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/2020\/06\/29\/broadband-forum-unveils-usp-certification-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Broadband Forum unveils USP Certification Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Broadband Forum launched its\u00a0User Services Platform (USP)\u00a0Agent\u00a0Certification Program, providing assurance and confidence for service providers\u00a0and consumer electronics companies\u00a0looking to generate new revenues\u00a0from\u00a0Internet of Things (IoT) services, cloud-based business models,\u00a0and Wi-Fi and security management.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a significant step forward for the\u00a0Connected Home\u00a0market that signals\u00a0industry readiness, the USP\u00a0Agent\u00a0Certification Program\u00a0is Broadband Forum&#8217;s first to use a self-certification model \u2013\u00a0allowing\u00a0companies\u00a0to cost-effectively test any\u00a0broadband\u00a0or consumer\u00a0connected\u00a0device\u00a0against the\u00a0Conformance Test Plan for User Services Platform Agents (TP-469)\u00a0standard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This will&nbsp;greatly&nbsp;accelerate interoperability by streamlining companies&#8217; ability&nbsp;to perform repeatable, automated testing on their own while preserving the integrity of the results and overall value of certified products by testing against rigorous standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Companies can self-test their products using&nbsp;an&nbsp;accredited test tool, which provides secure results for validation by a Broadband Forum approved laboratory&nbsp;or can submit products directly to the approved laboratory for testing.&nbsp;Products that have been validated will be recognized with a logo and&nbsp;certification&nbsp;ID and&nbsp;posted on Broadband Forum&#8217;s&nbsp;product registry&nbsp;website along with a list of the product\u2019s supported features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0CDRouter\u00a0automated test solution from\u00a0QA Cafe\u00a0begins the program as the first\u00a0approved\u00a0tool, and the\u00a0University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL)\u00a0as the first approved test agency, with additional labs expected to join the program in the coming weeks.\u00a0As part of the activities of the first approved test agency, UNH-IOL has validated the test specification and tool\u00a0against Broadband Forum\u2019s open-source reference implementation (OB-USP-Agent)\u00a0and other\u00a0commercial\u00a0implementations from multiple companies. CommScope\u2019s\u00a0ECO\u00a0Envoy 2.0 is the first commercial product to be certified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Consumer demand for connected home services is growing, as is the number of products and services coming to the market but in order for mass deployment to be realized, a&nbsp;unified, standardized, and interoperable platform to develop value-add solutions for the connected home&nbsp;is needed,&#8221;&nbsp;said&nbsp;Robin Mersh, CEO of&nbsp;Broadband Forum.&nbsp;&#8220;USP Agent certification&nbsp;will give&nbsp;developers and product managers confidence in their products, ensure interoperability, and prove to their customers that their products will work seamlessly with USP-enabled applications in this new and powerful ecosystem.&#8221;<br><br>The User Services Platform, specified in Broadband Forum TR-369, provides remote management for&nbsp;the&nbsp;new ecosystem&nbsp;of&nbsp;connected home applications.
