{"id":36087,"date":"2019-08-08T10:19:40","date_gmt":"2019-08-08T02:19:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/?p=36087"},"modified":"2019-08-08T10:19:42","modified_gmt":"2019-08-08T02:19:42","slug":"urban-poor-community-receives-samsung-lfd-units","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/2019\/08\/08\/urban-poor-community-receives-samsung-lfd-units\/","title":{"rendered":"Urban poor community receives Samsung LFD units"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation (SEPCO) gave a boost to Tulay ng Buhay at Pag-asa Foundation, Inc. by donating three LFD units for their educational programs. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The LFD units will be used as learning devices\nin three of the foundation\u2019s facilities, namely the HANBI ICT Center, Day Care\nCenter, and Tutorial Service Area. Together, the three rooms accommodate more\nthan 300 students who receive free schooling and certification for\nemployability. Tulay ng Buhay at Pag-asa Foundation is a non-government organization\n(NGO) that helps marginalized communities in Bagumbayan North and Navotas\nthrough learning initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSamsung has long supported the work of Tulay\nng Buhay at Pag-asa Foundation, and we are a witness to the number of families\nit helped over the years,\u201d shares Nico Garcia, SEPCO CSV and Government\nRelations head. \u201cWe wish to continue improving the foundation\u2019s capacity by\ncreating a smart and digitized learning environment. We want to equip its\nstudents with competitive skills that elevate their readiness for sustainable\nlivelihood opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Established in 2006, the NGO has produced\nhundreds of graduates who now work for the city government of Navotas and\nMalabon, and in several private offices in the area. It started with the HANBI\nICT Center, which offers information technology training for out-of-school\nyouth. The center was opened with the support of the United Nations\nEducational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Korea. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program offerings eventually expanded to\ncater to underprivileged kids and mothers of the community. The foundation now\noperates a Day Care Center, Tutorial Service Area, Baking class, and Bag-making\nworkshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are grateful for Samsung\u2019s continued\nsupport in our initiatives. Our student count in all programs is steadily\ngrowing every year, which poses the need for better facilities and equipment,\u201d\nsays Reverend Dr. Park Sun Ho, Tulay ng Buhay at Pag-asa Foundation, Inc.\nexecutive director. \u201cWith the new LFD units, we are confident that our programs\nwill roll out efficiently and provide better learning experience to our\nbeneficiaries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SEPCO dedicates its social responsibility\nefforts to nation-building projects through partnerships with global and local\norganizations.
