Perhaps it is better understood in dollar terms, with AWS (still the market leader) reporting sales growth increasing by 41% (that\u2019s $2.3 billion). Even Microsoft \u2013 a distant second-placer \u2013 registered a 75% growth (meaning, it was up by $1.5 billion). And Google, the fastest growing player, grew 83% (from $1.2 billion to $2.3 billion).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not surprisingly, Canalys noted that 2019 will further\nstress the \u201cbattle for enterprise customers\u201d as \u201cleading cloud service\nproviders seek to maintain high growth rates\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe cloud infrastructure market is moving into a new phase\nof hybrid IT adoption, with businesses demanding cloud services that can be\nmore easily integrated with their on-premises environments,\u201d said Canalys chief\nanalyst Alastair Edwards. \u201cAs enterprises become more selective about which\nworkloads are moved to the cloud, and which remain in their own data centers,\ncloud service providers must develop new strategies that ensure their continued\nrelevance. Most cloud service providers are now looking at ways to enter\ncustomers\u2019 existing data centers, either through their own products or via\npartnerships.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canalys is not the first \u2013 nor will it be the last \u2013 to note\nthe inevitability of cloud dominance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even before Canalys \u2013 and just for instance \u2013 IDG reported\nin December 2018 that 73% of enterprises have at least one application, or a\nportion of their computing infrastructure, already in the cloud. For better or\nworse, IT departments are said to be feeling the pressure to migrate 100% to\nthe cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And even earlier than the IDG report \u2013 this time in May 2018 \u2013 F5 Networks released a report, \u201cThe State of Application Delivery 2018\u201d, that revealed the growing trend among local organizations in the Philippines to already shifting to the multi-cloud to deploy or access services. Over 50% of IT professionals surveyed for the F5 report said they already utilize two to six cloud environments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"445\" src=\"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/up-the-cloud5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35961\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/up-the-cloud5.jpg 620w, http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/up-the-cloud5-300x215.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><figcaption><em>Here\u2019s the thing, though: For all the continuing talks about cloud (and cloud adoption), why aren\u2019t we fully \u201ccloudified\u201d yet?<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is worth noting that the private sector does not have\nmonopoly on cloud (adoption, and even conversation), particularly since there\nis recognition that cloud adoption in the public sector increases access of\ncitizens to services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an earlier interview, Microsoft Corporation regional\nlawyer Jarom Britton was quoted as saying: \u201cCloud computing enables the\nsmallest government with the smallest budget to have access to the same IT\nresources as the largest governments in the world\u2026 Cloud-based technologies\nwill drive much of the public sector\u2019s future transformation by presenting a\nsecure and cost-efficient model for delivering citizen-centric services.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s the thing, though: For all the continuing talks about\ncloud (and cloud adoption), why aren\u2019t we fully \u201ccloudified\u201d yet?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Upgrade Magazine<\/em>\ntalks with IT experts to understand what continue to be challenges for a market\nlike the Philippines, and what steps can be taken to continue pushing this forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Cloud-based security management makes sense \u2013 Kaspersky<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-wordpress wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-upgrade-magazine\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"FPFM8ebkKM\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/2019\/07\/23\/having-a-cloud-based-security-management-makes-sense-kaspersky\/\">Having a cloud-based security management makes sense &#8211; Kaspersky<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Having a cloud-based security management makes sense &#8211; Kaspersky&#8221; &#8212; Upgrade Magazine\" src=\"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/2019\/07\/23\/having-a-cloud-based-security-management-makes-sense-kaspersky\/embed\/#?secret=FPFM8ebkKM\" data-secret=\"FPFM8ebkKM\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While primarily a cybersecurity company, \u201cwe have observed\nthat Internet speed has always been the top issue in terms of cloud adoption in\nthe country,\u201d said Yeo Siang Tiong, GM for Southeast Asia of Kaspersky Lab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tiong noted that cloud adoption has grown and continues to\ngrow. In fact, \u201cour local customers already understand the advantages and\ndisadvantages of being in the cloud. They already know which application should\ngo on premise and which should be on cloud. It&#8217;s a hybrid approach in most\ncases, no single entity is 100% on cloud.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tiong believes that this is because of the challenges\npresented when maintaining both on-premise and cloud. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And so Kaspersky offers \u201ctechnologies and services that are\npowered by our over 20 years of threat hunting and a decade of experience in\nmachine learning. In fact, about 30% of the total workload in the country are already\nin the cloud,\u201d Yeo said. \u201cHowever, while businesses are open to adopting cloud\ntechnology, most of them are wary about the security of the platform. This is\nespecially after several high-profile security breaches that have taken place\nin recent years. But \u201cimprovements are being made across the industry\u2026\nthanks to government support and its adoption of a \u2018cloud first\u2019 policy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to the challenges faced by the country (that\naffect its cloud-readiness), the three concerns faced by customers are:\nsecurity, infrastructure readiness and resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But in the end, \u201cconcerns regarding security, infrastructure\nreadiness and resources are causing many companies to be hesitant to shift to a\ncloud-first policy. In addition, bandwidth concerns, such as slow internet\nspeeds, remain a concern. Indeed, less than 20% of enterprise workloads have moved\nto the cloud. Why? Because the initial focus has been on the low-end\ninfrastructure-as-a-service opportunity.
