{"id":35457,"date":"2019-06-06T22:21:37","date_gmt":"2019-06-06T14:21:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/?p=35457"},"modified":"2019-06-06T22:21:43","modified_gmt":"2019-06-06T14:21:43","slug":"demand-for-it-talent-remains-high-in-sg-and-phl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/2019\/06\/06\/demand-for-it-talent-remains-high-in-sg-and-phl\/","title":{"rendered":"Demand for IT talent remains high in SG and Phl"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The increase in demand for IT &amp; tech talent in Singapore and the Philippines this April was consistent with the increase experienced in March, according to the latest Monster Employment Index released today.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Monster Employment Index (MEI) is a monthly gauge of online hiring\nactivity across Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines, tracked by\nMonster.com. It comprises data for overall hiring activity in each country, as\nwell as specific data in the banking and finance sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Singapore\u2019s IT industry experienced an impressive 39% growth in demand\nbetween April 2018 and 2019, in line with the drastic 40% year-on-year growth\nexperienced in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Demand in the Philippines\u2019 IT industry has also been&nbsp; growing steadily in recent months, recording\na 15% year-on-year growth in April, which is consistent with the growth numbers\nof 10% and 13% in&nbsp; February and March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In contrast, Malaysia experienced a slight dip in demand growth from\nlast month, recording 43% year-on-year growth in April. This is lower than the\n60% y-o-y spike from March, but still significantly higher than January\u2019s\ngrowth number of 25%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When\nlooking specifically at software, hardware and telecom roles, Singapore saw a 27%\nyear-on-year demand growth in April, nearly the same as March\u2019s 29% growth\nnumber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Malaysia,\non the other hand, experienced a slip in demand growth compared to the previous\nmonth, recording 41% year-on-year in April. While this is lower than the whopping\n70% demand growth from March, it is still significantly higher than February\u2019s\nfeeble 5% growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nPhilippines failed to impress in April, recording 11% year-on-year growth for\nsoftware, hardware and telecom roles for the month, on par with the 10% number\nrecorded in both February &amp; March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe tech startup\necosystem in Southeast Asia is thriving, and is estimated to have brought in\nUS$10.9 billion in funding for late-stage startups in 2018 alone. With a young\npopulation that\u2019s always online and steadily increasing per capita GDP growth,\nthe region is set to be the next business hub of the world,\u201d said Abhijeet\nMukherjee, CEO of Monster.com \u2013 APAC and Gulf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis move is\ndriving a steadily increasing demand for skilled technology professionals and\nbusinesses looking to get ahead in the game need to start taking active steps\nto secure and retain quality talent.
