In a meeting with the press, Shannon Mead, HMD Global Philippines Country Manager, explained that Nokia smartphones with Android One offer more storage and battery life out of the box as well as the latest AI-powered innovations from Google to help the user stay ahead of the game every day.

Mead adds that the Nokia 3.1 will receive three years of monthly security patches and two years of OS updates as guaranteed in the Android One program. This puts the new Nokia 3.1 among the most-secure phones out there, always up-to-date with the latest Google services such as Google Assistant and Google Photos with free unlimited high-quality photo storage.

The Nokia 3.1 is a big upgrade from its predecessor, with boosted internal specs, a new exterior design, and sporting a big 18:9 aspect ratio 5.2” HD+ display (up from the 5-inch 16:9 display of the Nokia 3), made out of 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass.

The phone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek 6750. While it’s a small upgrade on the previous model’s quad-core MediaTek MTK 6737, it delivers a 50% performance boost, according to Mead. It will be available with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. There’s also a slight battery boost, to 2,990mAh, along with a microSD card slot that supports up to 128GB of additional storage.

The phone’s rear camera has a 13MP sensor with auto focus, a big boost from the older model’s 8MP. The 8MP selfie camera remains unchanged. Thanks to its full set of sensors – usually only found on premium phones – the Nokia 3.1 runs the latest apps and features effortlessly. Users can make the most out of popular AR apps such as Pokémon Go and capture a whole scene with panoramic imaging.

For security, the Nokia 3.1 can be unlocked with facial and voice recognition, according to Mead.

The phone will ship with Android Oreo 8.0 as standard and will be available in Black/Chrome on August 29 for PHP9,990.

Pre-sale of Nokia 3.1 has begun and lasts until August 26 through Nokia mobile stores and MemoXpress.

Nokia 2.1: Designed to be powerful

While the Nokia 2.1 is positioned as a budget phone, its features and design make it a powerful device.
