Business\u00a0leaders in the region agree: 80% of respondents expect humans and machines will work as integrated teams within their organization inside of five years.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv2413196073MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">But leaders are also split by whether the future represents an opportunity or a threat, and torn by the need to mitigate these risks.<sup>1<\/sup>\u00a0For instance:<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li class=\"yiv2413196073MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">52% say the more we depend upon technology, the more we\u2019ll have to lose in the event of a cyber-attack; 48% aren\u2019t concerned<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"yiv2413196073MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">53% of business leaders are calling for clear protocols in the event that autonomous machines fail; almost half abstained<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"yiv2413196073MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">49% say computers will need to decipher between good and bad commands; 51% don\u2019t see a need<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"yiv2413196073MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u201cYou can understand why the business community is so polarized,\u201d comments\u00a0<\/span>Jeremy Burton, chief marketing officer, Dell Technologies.<span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0\u201cThere tends to be two extreme perspectives about the future: the anxiety-driven issue of human obsolescence or the optimistic view that technology will solve our greatest social problems. These differing viewpoints could make it difficult for organizations to prepare for a future that\u2019s in flux and would certainly hamper leaders\u2019 efforts to push through necessary change.\u201d<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><u><\/u>\u00a0<u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv2413196073MsoNormal\">David Webster, president, APJ Enterprise, Dell EMC commented: \u201cRealizing the future opportunity that human-machine partnerships will bring is as much about people as it is about technology. Whilst many organizations across APJ are transforming their IT in order to enable future innovation and the best possible customer experience, business leaders will need to address cultural barriers too. Organizations will have to build the right culture to collaborate, embrace change, and align on how best to prepare and succeed.\u201d<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv2413196073MsoNormal\">Amit Midha, president, APJ Commercial, Dell EMC added: \u201cAPJ is the epicenter for innovation in AI and IoT and, as a result, there is significant expectation riding on the positive impact emerging technology can bring \u2013 particularly to the region\u2019s cities. Despite the lack of readiness as perceived by leaders in the region, technology and innovation leadership will be integral to overcoming the transformation challenges ahead, with human-machine partnerships set to revolutionize how we live, work and play in urban areas.\u201d<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv2413196073MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Given the promise of monumental change\u2014fueled\u00a0by exponentially increasing data and the applications, processing power and connectivity to harness it\u201461% speculate that schools will need to teach how to learn rather than what to learn to prepare students for jobs that don\u2019t yet exist. This thinking corroborates IFTF\u2019s forecast that 85% of jobs that will exist in 2030 haven\u2019t been invented yet.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"yiv2413196073MsoNormal\"><b><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Beset by barriers<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"yiv2413196073MsoNormal\">Furthermore, many businesses aren\u2019t moving fast enough, and going deep enough, to overcome common barriers to operating as a successful digital business. Only 24% of businesses believe they are leading the way, ingraining digital in all they do. 44% percent don\u2019t know whether they\u2019ll be able to compete over the next decade, and the majority (63%) of businesses are struggling to keep-up with the pace of change.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv2413196073MsoNormal\">Main barriers to becoming a successful digital business in 2030 and beyond in APJ:<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\" type=\"1\">\n<li class=\"yiv2413196073m_2229846878457583MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Lack of a digital vision and strategy: 66%<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"yiv2413196073m_2229846878457583MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Lack of workforce readiness: 63%<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"yiv2413196073m_2229846878457583MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Technology constraints: 50%<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"yiv2413196073m_2229846878457583MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Time and money constraints: 37%<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"yiv2413196073m_2229846878457583MsoNormalCxSpMiddle\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Law and regulations: 20%<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 class=\"yiv2413196073MsoNormal\"><b>Unified by the need to transform<\/b><u><\/u><u><\/u><\/h2>\n<p class=\"yiv2413196073MsoNormal\">Leaders may be divided in their view of the future and facing barriers to change, but they\u2019re united in the need to transform.
