(STAR), the parent of smartphone brand Starmobile, announced the start of its mobile phone production efforts in the Philippines as it starts assembly of 20,000 units of the UNO B208 featurephone in a facility in Calamba, Laguna.\u00a0The facility can assemble a minimum of 1,000 units per day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Starmobile.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28995\" src=\"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Starmobile.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"665\" height=\"463\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Starmobile.jpg 665w, http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Starmobile-300x209.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This effort officially makes Starmobile the first Filipino brand to assemble mobile phones locally.<\/p>\n<p>Gerry Torres of Starmobile\u2019s Quality Control Team oversees the inspection of the UNO B208.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince we started five years ago, it has been the company\u2019s goal to contribute to the local economy and provide employment by assembling phones in the Philippines,\u201d said Starmobile COO Michael Chen. \u201cAside from bringing us a step closer to our dream of building up the Philippines an important player in the global tech scene, this will also benefit our bottom line, as it will result in more cost and time-efficient logistics and shipment around the country. In addition, because we will have parts and an assembly facility locally, we expect this to improve our after-sales support for our customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While smartphones are more popular than ever in the Philippines, the demand for basic call-and-text feature phones still thrives in the country, since they remain to be affordable.<\/p>\n<p>The Starmobile UNO B208 is a dual-SIM feature phone with an FM radio, camera with flash, expandable memory, flashlight, multimedia playback, and a battery life of up to two days.
