<\/a><\/p>\nThis is the fearless forecast of Jim Freeman, IBM\u2019s Asia Pacific VP for hybrid cloud, when exclusively interviewed by Upgrade Magazine<\/em>.<\/p>\n For Freeman, two things will make this possible.<\/p>\n On the one hand, \u201cregulators are making it possible,\u201d he said, \u201cas they become more comfortable with the cloud.\u201d This is true, for instance, in the case of the banking industry, known in the past as a hard-to-crack market because, even if banks want to shift to the cloud, regulators inhibit them from doing so due to security concerns. \u201cBut this has been changing,\u201d Freeman said.<\/p>\n On the other hand, and responding to the aforementioned concern re security, \u201ccloud providers are also advancing,\u201d Freeman said. \u201cCloud is (constantly) evolving to respond to the needs of industries.\u201d<\/p>\n And so for Freeman, \u201cas businesses are (looking to) moving and as cloud continues to evolve, there\u2019s a closing of that gap. Eventually, cloud will dominate.\u201d<\/p>\n Freeman is, nonetheless, the first to admit that \u201cthe fear (about) going to cloud\u201d is still there. This is particularly true to enterprises\/big companies, and even more particular to regulated industries. It is, therefore, not surprising \u2013 Freeman said \u2013 that \u201cstartups were actually the first to be in cloud.\u201d<\/p>\n For startups, there are three value propositions with moving to cloud; which is something Freeman said he hopes others will also see.<\/p>\n First, \u201cit\u2019s fast,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s very easy now for a person with idea (to turn that into reality).\u201d<\/p>\n Second, cloud is cheaper particularly when compared with the traditional modes \u2013 e.g. if in the past there was need to spend on specific technology for a specific business to properly function, with cloud, this is no longer necessary, thereby cutting costs.<\/p>\n And third, \u201cconsumption pricing.\u201d For instance, during Christmas, there may be need to spend more on tech, though what was bought for this season may not be usable for the rest of the year. \u201cBut in cloud, you buy only what you need,\u201d Freeman said.<\/p>\n Eventually, Freeman said, everyone will see these benefits; and better yet, make use of cloud because of these.<\/p>\n At least in his observation, APAC \u2013 which Freeman said has \u201cstrong appetite for service\u201d \u2013 has \u201calways been a big growth market for cloud\u201d because the region is \u201cvery advanced in the consumption of services.\u201d Add to this the \u201cabundance of startups\u201d in the region (e.g. in India and in Singapore, among others).<\/p>\n But ultimately, Freeman said, \u201ceverything will be all in the cloud\u201d as \u201cbusinesses see the merit of moving into cloud, and providers close the gaps to respond to their needs.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Ultimately, everything will be all in the cloud.
