{"id":21148,"date":"2015-12-17T12:35:07","date_gmt":"2015-12-17T04:35:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/?p=21148"},"modified":"2015-12-17T13:23:18","modified_gmt":"2015-12-17T05:23:18","slug":"ph-has-second-lowest-average-connection-speed-in-asia-pacific","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/2015\/12\/17\/ph-has-second-lowest-average-connection-speed-in-asia-pacific\/","title":{"rendered":"PH has second lowest average connection speed in Asia Pacific"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Philippines has the second lowest average Internet connection speed and peak connections at 2.8Mbps and 25.3Mbps, respectively, dropping one notch from the previous quarter, according to Akamai Technologies, Inc.&#8217;s Third Quarter, 2015 State of the Internet Report.<\/p>\n<p>In the second quarter, the country&#8217;s average Internet connection speed and peak connections were at 3.1Mbps and 25.6Mbps, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Akamai-State-of-the-Internet.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-21149\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21149\" src=\"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Akamai-State-of-the-Internet.png\" alt=\"Akamai State of the Internet\" width=\"329\" height=\"357\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Akamai-State-of-the-Internet.png 329w, http:\/\/www.upgrademag.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Akamai-State-of-the-Internet-276x300.png 276w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 329px) 100vw, 329px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Global average connection speed increased slightly (0.2%) to 5.1 Mbps from the second quarter, accounting for a 14% increase year-over-year.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea had the top average connection speed at 20.5 Mbps, despite a year-over-year drop of 19% since the third quarter of 2014, while India had the lowest at 2.5 Mbps<\/p>\n<p>After a 12% quarterly increase in the second quarter, the global average peak connection speed declined a slight 0.9% to 32.2 Mbps in the third quarter. This accounts 30% year-over-year growth.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore (135.4 Mbps) and Macao (73.7 Mbps) saw double-digit quarterly gains at 25% and 18%, respectively.
