The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and social ICT solutions provider Grameen Intel Social Business Ltd. (GISB) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to partner in the development of e-Agriculture Solutions to provide a set of mobile and computer-based agriculture applications that will help small farmers improve their livelihood by addressing key farming needs from cultivation to harvest.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The MOU signing with Calum Chrisholm of Intel Microelectronics Philippines Inc, Director Dilek Altin of Grameen Intel Social Business Ltd (GISB), DOST-ICT Office Undersecretary Louis Napoleon Casambre, Ms. Bettina Quimson, Deputy Executive Director DOST-ICT Office\u2019s eSociety group, and Nafis Chowdhury of GISB<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

This partnership is in line with the Tech4ED project of the DOST ICT Office that promotes the development of an eFilipino towards an inclusive and integrated society through Information and communication.<\/p>\n

According to Bettina Quimson, deputy executive director of the DOST ICT Office\u2019s eSociety group, \u201cThis partnership between GISB and the Tech4ED project, is a significant initiative that aims to develop information technology solutions for eAgriculture services\u201d.<\/p>\n

In this digital era, technology has contributed greatly to the growth and development of society including the agricultural sector. Both organizations have the same goal of harnessing ICT for the improvement of various farming and agricultural strategies, the MOU signing happened on 23 September 2015, during the Digital Strategies for Development Summit (DSDS) at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City.<\/p>\n

Grameen Intel Social Business Ltd. (GISB) is a Social ICT Business that focuses on applying technology to help the world\u2019s impoverished population. It is a joint venture of Grameen Trust and Intel Corporation established in 2007 by Intel chairman Craig and Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus.<\/p>\n

The Tech4ED project of the DOST-ICT Office\u2019s eSociety group is a project component of the eFilipino program that aims to harness ICT to enable, empower, and transform society towards an inclusive, integrated and equitable countryside.<\/p>\n

The Tech4ED project’s mAgri segment which enhances farm technologies for aquaculture, livestock and agriculture, e-Agriculture solutions provides a digital platform for agricultural sector to enhance farm technologies for product diversity and improved farm production.<\/p>\n

This is done by providing recommendations based on the farmers\u2019 specific situation and cover crop, seed selection, soil management and fertilizer application, pest and disease management and forward market linkage information.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
