Printer assembler Epson Philippines Corporation further strengthened its commitment to sustainability, through the creation of environment-friendly products and solutions, partnering with organizations for advancing sustainable development efforts, and raising awareness about climate change and its effects on the environment, in order to secure a sustainable future for the next generation.
“Epson’s commitment to sustainability has always been integrated in the way we offer it in the products and solutions that we innovate and in the initiatives that we do to help our community in shaping greener future for the next generation,” said Ed Bonoan, head of marketing at Epson Philippines Corporation.
Bonoan also said that it is pertinent that companies embrace their roles as a responsible business when it comes to energy and technology consumption in order to secure a sustainable future and this include deploying innovative solutions and products that have a low impact on the environment and sustainable sourcing of resources.
Bonoan further said smart companies are now taking the opportunity to execute transformative solutions as they acknowledge the important role of businesses in addressing climate change. He cited that sustainability has been Epson’s source of pride ever since its early days as a company. “Our culture actually has a DNA connected to the environment. We are fully committed to a harmonious co-existence with the community in which we operate.”
In 2021, Epson joined the international initiative RE100 and committed switch to 100% renewable energy at all Epson Group production sites around the world by 2023. Bonoan shared that Epson’s manufacturing site in Batangas has already achieved this goal by switching to 100% renewable energy in January 2021. This was done by generating power with a rooftop mega solar power plant and by switching to a mix of geothermal and hydroelectric power.
Last year, Epson joined forces with the National Geographic to churn down heat campaign to encourage people to practice energy conservation, a factor that will help slowdown global warming. The campaign comes as scientists predict that the world will be entirely affected by raising global sea levels, flooding coastal communities and creating frequent extreme weather events by 2100. Together, Epson and National Geographic are raising awareness on how people can reduce their own environmental impact by adopting sustainable technologies in their own workplaces.
Saving energy is essential to fight against global warming, however, there are still new technologies used in businesses that consumed significant energy daily. As a response to this, Epson developed printers that are powered by heat-free technology which reduces environmental impact by using heat energy.
Epson also escalated its efforts to increase awareness in climate change and its effects on the environment by partnering with the global organization World Wide Fund (WWF) Philippines chapter by sponsoring the creation of a three-dimensional immersive virtual museum that will serve as an entertaining and interactive way to remind Filipino of their role in fighting climate change and to make them understand the world’s climate and environment-related issues.
Bonoan noted that Epson Southeast Asia also partnered with WWF to scale up marine life and achieve a low carbon future. The partnership will execute various marine conservation and climate action projects across Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. In the Philippines, Epson will support WWF to work with local communities in Southern Palawan this fiscal year to restore several mangrove sites. These include sea planting, monitoring, and coastal resource management, among others. Epson will also support WWF to establish a community learning and innovation to empower communities to sustain capacity building and share best practices.
